Shoutout to our crew member, Dylan for spotting a sailboat that was 12 hours overdue - his awareness and concern helped bring a tense situation to a safe ending. 🙌 Huge thanks to the local harbormasters and the U.S. Coast Guard for their swift response and teamwork. Grateful to report all are safe and accounted for! ⛵️💙
OVERDUE SAILBOAT FOUND BY TUG OFF WESTPORT
WESTPORT - After almost 12-hours the overdue sailboat OBIE was heard from, a city tug boat, the ROY BOYS spotted the sailboat fitting the description tied to green Buoy 5 off Westport MA. about 11:30 PM, July 5, 2025. The sailboat's sole occupant (orignally reported as 2 on board) was brought in to Dartmouth by Dartmouth Marine Rescue Marine 1 - reported at 1:15 AM. July 6, 2025.
A man on board the sailboat was spotted waving to the tug as it was passing by. Search and rescue boats from The Buzzards Bay Marine Task Force sped to the scene, including a USCG HC 144 CASA which had nightvision of the boat and single occupant by the buoy.
At 1:09 AM, July 6, 2025, the USCG made the happy notice to mariners to cancel the lookout for the overdue boat.

The Buzzards Bay Task Force has been activated. Regional search and rescue assets deployed, including Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, New Bedford and Dartmouth.10:30PM - July 5, 2025.
Wife of Captain states she last heard from the boats Captain around noon. There was one passenger with him. The small 20-foot sailboat was transiting from Menemsha MV to New Bedford.
Search area encompasses most of Buzzards Bay to Woods Hole - Elizabeth Islands.
UPDATE - Fairhaven Harbormaster exited New Bedford Harbor - 10:49PM. Coast Guard states sailboat had a very small motor. Area docks and piers also being searched.
