💡 Airport Project Update

The new airfield lights are installed, but they’re not powered up just yet! The next step is bringing all the pieces together in the new electrical equipment building (coming soon).

✈️ Runway 5L/23R, Taxiways A, B and C, and the apron are expected to remain open. Please use caution around personnel and equipment working adjacent to these areas.

🌿 Brush and obstruction removal around the airport is also continuing.

💡 Let There Be Light... Soon!
New airfield light fixtures are being installed and the finish line is in sight. The lights will be operational once power is connected (date TBD).

⚠️ Anticipated Closures
● Runway 5L/23R: Closed daily 0700-1930L through Saturday
▷ Pilots may request access by contacting the work crew on CTAF at least 15 minutes prior to arrival or departure
● Taxiway B: Expected closure next week
● Taxiway A: Expected closure next week
● TWY A and B will not be close simultaneously
●Ski/Turf Runway 5R/23L: Remains closed due to soft surface conditions

Update 9/12:

It’s rained so much this week that our ski strip (5R/23L) needs to dry out a bit before it’ll be ready for aircraft operations. This means we will be delaying Monday’s scheduled closure of the paved runway (5L/23R).

Watch this page for updated work/runway closure plans and, as always, perform a visual inspection prior to landing and check those NOTAMs for current status.

🛑 Runway 5L/23R is scheduled to close Monday 9/14 at approximately 0700L. 🛑

🛫 It is expected to reopen sometime on Friday 9/18. 🛫

The ski/turf runway is currently closed but will reopen before 5L/23R closes.

📍 New Numbers, Same Runway!

If you're flying into or out of Nenana Municipal Airport (ENN), you'll notice a change on the airfield.

🛫 The airport's primary runway designation has officially changed from 04L/22R to 05L/23R. The same renumbering also applies to the ski strip and float pond.

✅ Current NOTAM:�ENN 08/016�RWY 04L/22R CHANGED TO RWY 05L/23R�Effective: August 19, 2026, 1700 AKDT�Permanent Change

📖 Why do runway numbers change?
�Runway numbers are based on their magnetic heading, rounded to the nearest 10 degrees. Because Earth's magnetic poles slowly move over time, magnetic variation changes too. Alaska experiences these shifts more rapidly than many lower-latitude locations because it is much closer to the magnetic north pole, causing compass-based headings to drift more noticeably.

👀 So while the runways haven’t moved, the numbers have!
