Best, most productive, day in a wholesaler’s life? It is when the customers come to the warehouse instead of limited product being driven around the map to do much of the same: put the product in front of the customer for a taste.

I must share I was honored to have all the DMV mangers from the well known Silver Diner chain for a fantastic staff training/customer appreciation day yesterday.

Some of these products are already available for you to enjoy at selected locations while we’re working on bringing the products to all Silver Diner locations in the DMV.

Happy WINESday friends!

Do you ever find yourself questioning your wine preference right then in the moment? I say, when in doubt, go with a Pinot Noir, one from Oregon will get the job done just right. It’s one of those wines that will pair well with a variety of plates or nothing at all. I pair mine with good company.

Personally, I really like the DeLancellotti wines. Our 2022 Famiglia is showing exceptionally well, so I thought it’s only fair to share that with you. You know me, I don’t keep wine secrets from y’all.

From the producer:
The 2022 de Lancellotti ‘Famiglia’ Pinot Noir unveils a very pure core of red fruits alongside potpourri and mandarin orange rind notes on the nose. The palate is very seamless and soft with good weight and underlying astringency. Layers of pomegranate seed, red currants and volcanic stones combine with salty minerals on the palate. The 2022 vintage has benefited from extended bottle aging and is now in an excellent condition for immediate enjoyment or further cellaring.

From the critics:

Happy WINESday friends,

As I’m attending this great USPAACC event at MGM National Harbor where small business are recognized for their rapid growth, I am also celebrating alongside everyone while enjoying a glass of my own wine 🥂 MGM has been paramount to my company growth by consistently buying the amazing wines and spirits HARBOR WINES represents. The wine makers, and brand owners I work with rely heavily on my ability to push their product. So I do! One of the main challenges in promoting product I have encountered through the years as a distributor is having the opportunity to sit at the same table where BIG distribution companies get to sit… my age and gender where a big detriment to my success also… however, MGM has not only provided that seat for me but choose HARBOR WINES for their mentor protege program where I got to meet with industry leading entities. God is good and so is MGM to small business.
Big thank you to my mentors Tobias Thornwell, and Deborah Robinson who held my hand through the process and have been invaluable during this journey.

Who doesn’t like a good Bordeaux? Well I got something for you:

Maison Francois Janoueix

The Janoueix family moved from a small village (Correze) to Bordeaux in 1898. Initially established in Margaux, the families business has since moved to Libourne, near Saint Emilion, with an office overlooking the banks of the Dordonne River.

Thanks to hard work, patience, and integrity, the family became fortunate enough to accumulate new estates around Bordeaux. Above all else, Fracnois Janoueix considers himself a wine-grower. This dedicated, humble approach helped grow the family enterprise to include 14 estates across 9 appellations.

For Janoueix, terroir is not only the expression of a great wine but that of a character, a subtle alchemy between man and his vineyard - in short: a signature. His signature can be found on legendary estates, such as Chateau Romer in Sauternes, and Chateau LaFleur Saint Jean in Pomerol, all the way through his work to the Bordeaux appellation wines.

I often have dreams about my work… whether I am awake or asleep I still dream, I dream big. They say be careful what you wish for because it just may become true… and so I did dare dream big when I was just a kid who wished to go where nobody we knew has ever been… this place very far away called America. In fact it was so far away it was often compared to something absolutely unobtainable. It truly took a village to help gather the money needed for me to visit the US with a student visa back in 2007… Like a fairytale I met the love of my life in no other place but Washington DC, the center of the universe as I call it. Two years later, after going back home to Moldova, I immigrated to the best country in the world, the USA! I then followed my husband through his military career, tried my best to make the best through deployments and many relocations. When he got stationed back in DC, I knew it was my time to shoot for the starts. I asked my husband to loan me $3,000 so that I can start my wine business. He’s a funny guy so his response was “well, if nothing else, we’ll have $3,000 worth of wine to enjoy ourselves”. I’ll secretly share with you, he’s enjoyed more than that over the past (almost) 10 years 🤣
I was 29 when I incorporated Harbor Wines with this one purpose: to earn my keep in this land of opportunities. To say I’ve encountered some challenges on this entrepreneurial adventure, would be an understatement, by a long shot. However, if it wasn’t for the challenges what would really drive succes and innovation?
In a nutshell, with my husband’s support and initial investment, MGM’s opportunity to be a vendor with them, and FSC First financing my first warehouse… I cannot count my blessings fast enough! You know you’re doing ok when a financial institution awards you the Woman Owned Business of the year award. Right? I couldn’t go alone to accept this mind blowing award. I had to have my mom there with me, after all, she brought me into this world and gave me a chance at life. I also had to have the three people at MGM who supported me the most. I’d be deemed ignorant, and a mere hypocrite if I didn’t include y’all into this succes story. The support of my friends and family has been paramount to my succes in every way. I truly feel I’m living the American dream.

So what happens when 3 out of 11 deliveries go wrong because… well someone wasn’t paying attention? I kick off the high hills and go get it done right while fighting DC traffic for 4 hours. You know, wine emergencies 😁

It was the IBest Wines dominating orders today with a total count of 26 cases delivered… so I thought it will only be fair to wrap up women’s history month showcasing a woman owned brand thus reminding you about these amazing South African blends.

Housebar Navy Yard, The Gathering Spot, and Salamander hotel are great places to enjoy these great wines. 🥂

Happy WINESday and great Spirits

There are so many challenges in the alcohol industry… really… (I’m even leaving the potential 200% import tax increase alone for right now)…
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I was on the very edge of throwing my hands up in the air thinking: that is it… that is for sure the absolute it! What keeps me “staying” however, and moving forward is customers like Tapias on Main in Frederick. A family owned restaurant with a fantastic menu and
atmosphere.

Their calamari is the best I’ve had in the area, and their mushroom ravioli is something I always crave. Don’t even get me started on their pizzas. From a handful of flour to the sauce, it’s all made in house. You can even watch your pizza go in the even. I know 🤯

Here is Pepe, the owner of Tapias showcasing his menu while Domenic and I introduced him to our 05 products of Italian liquors. Wait till you try Tapia’s “White Russian” mixed with our 05 Liquirizia!

Their food there is amazing and I thought it would only be fair to share it with you. However, by the time I realized I need to take some food pictures, I pretty much ate everything.

Make sure to enjoy a glass of wine with your meal, or juat have an apple martini made with our oh so special Italian apple liqueur Melanurc.

Let’s keep drinking good “juice”!
