Our guys out in San Diego had an interesting tow yesterday.
They had to tow this dead whale out to sea. It’s believed to be a Right Whale but NOAA took tissue samples to confirm.
The operation took an odd turn as attaching a line to tow it became challenging. Several Great White sharks were munching on it making it impossible to send a swiller in the water to rig the line. Their crew had to drift a line under the tail then rig it while sharks, one of them a very large female Great White check them out. The whale was towed about 30 miles offshore to catch a current so it can drift away from the California shoreline.
Local beach goers and surfers were put on notice of the shark sighting.
Sharks were still around it when the whale was released from tow.
It is in known how the whale met its fate. But gauging off the level of decay it had been drifting for a while.
