Engine 100 hr inspection completed at the 1000 hr total time mark. The engine is in great health half way through its 2000 hr time between overhaul cycle. Everything passed with flying colors! 😎

It’s come time to complete the Rotax 5 year rubber replacement. All the oil and coolant hoses plus the fuel pressure regulator have to be changed. These hoses all represent a single point of failure if they decide to go bad at an inopportune time. Could you go longer than the recommended change time? Sure, except you might personally find out just how long a hose can go. It’s a conservative time frame given what we experience with our automobiles but there are no roads to pull off of if trouble comes your way. Doing the work yourself saves tons of money as the parts themselves are not very expensive in the big scheme of things. Peace of mind and safety above all makes following the manufacturer’s maintenance requirements a prudent thing to do.

We’ve been associated with Sling Aircraft since 2014 and we couldn’t be prouder of them as they have progressed into a worldwide kit plane powerhouse.

Our Sling 2 has flown over 800 hrs and continues to amaze us with its ruggedness, reliability and good looks. We have had more fun and adventure with the folks at Sling Aircraft North America and the “home office” in South Africa than the law allows. To see them grow and succeed is heartwarming indeed.

After being a hangar queen for a month it was time for a shampoo and a blow dry……..

Finally back on its feet. All the wheel bearings have been replaced as well as the brake rotors. Now it’s time to “bed” the rotors and pads. A few runs down the runway accelerating to about 40 knots then applying hard breaking. This raises the rotor temperature to about 300 to 400 degrees helping transfer an even layer of brake pad material onto the brake rotor which assists in smooth brake operation and greater braking power. Once done you let the brakes cool down. Tomorrow the wheels pants go back on and we’ll just have to fly…. She could use a bath too!

Bearing races and brake rotor replaced, wheel cleaned and tube and tire reinstalled. These are ready to be put back on the plane. Tomorrow…..I have enough dirt under my fingernails for one day and a Florida thunderstorm is minutes away!
