shippers are dealing with a market that is difficult to predict. capacity has tightened, with driver availability, rail disruptions, fuel volatility, equipment constraints, and other pressures all pulling on the same limited pool of trucks. At the same time, tank wash charges and other operating costs are varying substantially by product and region.

When the tracking team identifies an issue, it alerts the Bulk Connection representative who arranged the shipment. That person can then update the customer and help coordinate the response. Depending on the problem, carrier personnel, the driver, the shipper, the receiver, a tank wash, or other parties may need to be involved.

“If there’s something wrong, it becomes all hands on deck to figure out what the situation is and how to resolve it,” Boudah said.

Bulk trucking success depends on clear communication before the load ever moves.

Before quoting or hauling a bulk shipment, your transportation provider needs answers to questions like:

What product is moving?
Is it hazardous or temperature-sensitive?
What equipment is required?
How will the product be loaded and unloaded?
Are there incompatible prior products?
Does the receiver require specific safety equipment?
Is a tank wash required?
