✈️ Happy National Aviation Day! ✈️
Today, we celebrate an industry that has changed the way we experience the world.
From the Wright brothers’ first powered flight in 1903 to the millions of flights that connect people and places today, aviation has transformed what it means to travel. What once took days (or even weeks) can now take just a few hours, bringing us closer to the people we love, the places we’ve always wanted to see, and opportunities that might otherwise feel a world away.
Here at Myrtle Beach International Airport, we get a front-row seat to those connections every day. 💙 Whether it’s a family arriving for their first Myrtle Beach vacation, a longtime visitor returning to their favorite stretch of coastline, a local heading off on a new adventure, or loved ones reuniting at the bottom of the arrivals escalators, every flight has a story behind it.
And MYR has a pretty special aviation story of its own. Commercial operations at the airport began in 1975, when Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and Horry County reached an agreement allowing civilian operations on a portion of the base. More than 50 years later, MYR has grown into one of South Carolina’s busiest airports, connecting millions of travelers each year with destinations across the country.
So today, we’re celebrating the pioneers who made flight possible, the countless people who keep aviation moving every day, and most importantly, all of you who give us a reason to fly. 🛫🌎🛬
P.S. Still with us? 👀 Perfect - this part’s for you.
Since you made it all the way to the end, let’s make it worth your while! Tell us about your favorite aviation memory or travel experience in the comments for a chance to win a MYR swag bag.
First flight? Dream vacation? Tearful reunion? An unexpectedly great airport day? We want to hear it!
And, of course… bonus points if your story includes MYR. 😉
Happy from Myrtle Beach International Airport! 💙✈️
