This is the OFFICIAL page of the Southstrand Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Our District is approximately 54 square miles.

This is the OFFICIAL page of the South Strand Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association Local 4940 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire District Fire Division consists of 3 shifts, operating on a 24/48 schedule with 18 personnel assigned to each change. We have four firehouses with two engine companies, one rear-mount ladder company, and one rear-mount truck company. The Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire District EMS Division is comprised of four shifts, operating on a 24/72 schedule with eight Advanced Life Support (ALS) personnel, including paramedics, on each shift. We currently operate three Advanced Life Support Ambulances: one in Horry County and two in Georgetown County. The Surfside Beach Fire Department is comprised of three shifts, operating on a 24/48 schedule with four personnel on each shift. We have one station in the Town of Surfside Beach that is staffed by a Rescue Engine company. Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire District covers Georgetown County and Horry County. The department handles approximately 8000 calls annually. Surfside Beach Fire Department covers the Town of Surfside Beach and contracted fire response areas within in Horry County. Our District is approximately 5 square miles. The department handles approximately 2,000 calls annually. President: Robb McMahon

Members can also use this site to promote their Local affiliated events and network with other fire service enthusiasts and IAFF members. As summer comes to a close, our Water Rescue Division is wrapping up another busy season protecting the beaches and waterways of Murrells Inlet and Garden City.

From beach patrols and surf rescues to marine response, our crews stayed ready throughout the summer to serve both our community and visitors.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it a safe season. Summer may be ending, but our commitment doesn’t — our Water Rescue Division remains ready year-round.

The STATE-FUNDED PFAS TESTING & CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM is UP FOR A VOTE TOMORROW! 🗳️

🏛️ The SC HOUSE has our backs, but some SENATE members are WAFFLING.

There are still efforts underway to REDUCE FUNDING FOR STATE PROGRAMS, and it is possible they could REMOVE OUR LIFE-SAVING PROGRAM FROM THE BUDGET. ⚠️

🚫 WE CANNOT LET THAT HAPPEN! 🚫

Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District Achieves CAAS Accreditation with Perfect Score

Murrells Inlet, SC — The Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District is proud to announce it has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), achieving a perfect score during the review process.

This prestigious, three-year designation reflects the highest standards in emergency medical services and places the District among an elite group of EMS providers nationwide.

Based on current CAAS records, the Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District is the first Fire/EMS agency in the Carolinas to receive this designation, marking a significant milestone for emergency medical services in the region.

CAAS accreditation is a comprehensive, independent evaluation of an agency’s clinical care, operational performance, safety practices, and organizational accountability. Earning this distinction demonstrates the District’s commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and high-quality patient care.

As a continuous improvement model, CAAS accreditation supports the District in identifying opportunities, strengthening systems, and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability. It reinforces a culture of accountability and helps position the agency to meet the evolving needs of the community it serves.
