GRAND CANYON Rim2Rim2Rim (R3)

We are officially hiking the Grand Canyon R3, April 23-28, 2021!

Unfortunately, we were not able to "officially" do this trip under High Mountain Journeys, but we are super excited to be amonst 4 other AMAZING women who will be joining Pam and I. We will be posting our journey as we have cell coverage so you all can see our progress. We would be remiss if we didn't admit that we are all a bit nervous. It's a BIG hike! All of us are facing some kind of fear we might have; not in the best shape, affraid of heights, recent foot surgery, not a hiker, shoulder injury, etc... If we waited to overcome these fears we'd never go! So, we are all going and supporting one another through hugs, guidance, mental support, and maybe even some surprise CHOCOLATE! Shhhhhh 😉

Keep your eye out for another journey in the Canyon - maybe in 2022! We also hope to have our first journey in Sedona this November! If you are interested please send us a message. We'd love to hear from you.

Don't Be Scared! Yes, this is what I tell myself daily. We are all fearful in some way. Our past is a blur to some respect and our future is unknown. Both Pam and I have our struggles. There has been much we've overcome but to say there is finality to the overcoming of struggles would be untrue. Life is a journey - the reason we created High Mountain Journeys. Many women fear pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone and we wanted to create a space for women to feel safe in pushing themselves out of that "zone". NO JUDGEMENT and pure support.

As Pam and I have been creating High Mountain Journeys and putting together the Journeys that we think other women would love and benefit from, we have realized with each journey we create and do ourselves, we continue to push through our own fears and continued struggles. They never go away completely. They are just different with each new thing we try. Changing how you view them and observe them is key.

Our last trip we did, I had a strong urge to go to Greer, AZ to see if that might be a place we could offer as a Journey down the road. I grew up in Greer in the summer and fall months as a kid. My parents would leave Yuma to get out of the heat and that's where we'd head. I was beyond excited to get back up to Greer, remembering the fond memories, the smells, and the beauty as a child. As we got closer to Greer sorrow started setting in and I became fearful to feel some of that pain as both of my parents have passed on and there are only memories left. In addition, I was feeling anxious about our activities, as I've gained some weight due to COVID quarantine restrictions (we are all experiencing) and being somewhat out of shape due to the extra pounds, lack of consistent exercise coupled with high altitude. YIKES - as you can read, my head was filling with fear, doubt and sadness.
My point - don't ever feel like you are alone in your struggles and thoughts- even all the FUN Facebook pictures that everyone posts aren't always what they seem. In some of the pictures I posted in this post you wouldn't know by the pictures, but both Pam and I had some moments of tears and fears. We all have thoughts that pop into our heads daily. These thoughts can be very debilitating and limit us from doing things we might love and push forward on. Just remember, everyone has to start somewhere and why not be with like minded women who are here to encourage and support one another. Nobody is perfect and free of struggles, if they were, life would be very boring. Take that baby step - we are here for you.

We wanted to post a little bit of our trip from Greer, AZ. We think this is going to be a great journey to offer once COVID simmers down a bit. We found some beautiful cabins in a serene setting in the forest near a beautiful stream, perfect for meditating, reading or even fishing. There are some amazing trails we mapped out and hiked for all levels, MTB riding and even Kayaking.

We have also posted on our website www.highmountainjourneys.com our upcoming Journey in Sedona. We think we will be able to roll with this in November but of course, we are keeping a watchful eye on the COVID outcome.

In the meantime, remember, life is a Journey!
xoxo

We hit the ground running setting up camp on Monday late afternoon when we arrived. Just letting everyone know the fires are not near us so all is well and the weather is beautiful. Tuesday we drove around Greer, Mount Baldy and Lee Lake area mapping out hiking and MTB trails. We did take a small hike with the dogs to test our acclimation. Today was a MTB ride on a trail nearby our camp. It was rated easy to moderately difficult to difficult. We didn’t really go higher than moderately difficult. I’m a new MTB rider and it’s completely different than road biking. I bit it once on the rocks but I’m fine. I’m sure I will have a good bruise. Pam lead the way and did awesome. It was another great trail to get used to altitude (9500 feet) and help with technical skills. We also found some great cabins to add to one of our journeys if we decide Greer will be a destination stop.

Pam and I are on our way to Greer, AZ on Monday. We are going to be mapping out some hiking and Mountain Biking Trails to see if this might be another journey we offer! In the meantime, I thought I’d be funny with Pam without her knowing! 😂😂
What are friends for? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I wanted to write a post today to let everyone know - unfortunately, due to COVID-19 our Grand Canyon hike got postponed. Today would have been our first of 5 days on the trail for the Rim2Rim2Rim. While we are dissappointed, we have been assured that we can reschedule under our permit at a later date for up to two years. We haven't quite decided on the date. Fall seems like a great time to go but it may be too close to the recovery of COVID, so perhaps we may have to wait until next April. We will definitely keep everyone posted and we will also let you know if we have any spots available for you to join us if you are interested.

In addition, Pam and I are still in hopes of planning a Journey for this year - it being our very first journey that we offer under HMJ - as you all can imagine, its a wait and see game right now. With that being said, we will more than likely be holding it in Sedona, AZ.

As I sit here and type this, I do understand that staying home and keeping safe is the most important thing. Mainly, if you are not in the high risk category it's to protect people who might be. For many of us the isolating is becoming a bit like being caged. Its funny, because I know for me, I'm still able to get out and get groceries, walk in the neighborhood and even ride my bike but the feeling out there is just different. Partly a guilty feeling for being outside and partly an unsure and uneasy feeling.

I believe in my gut, soon we will be getting back to a somewhat normal routine but the fallout all around us from this virus will take some time. For me personally, I am working hard every day to embrace the "sitting still" we are forced to do. I can't help but think there's a reason our Mother Earth must stop to take a rest.

I am very grateful in the fact that I have the opportunity to work from home. There have been many days where I've been loading up my calendar with Zoom calls just to stay connected and not feel so isolated. I ran across a quote last week from Brendon Burchard, he said, "The number one problem is that people don't feel the day, so they pick up their phone looking for life." In my case, it has been Zoom and my phone. I felt like this was such a profound quote. Very true for myself. I think it's important to just "sit" and "feel the day." Over the past few days as I work from my desk at home which faces my backyard (thankfully), I've noticed about 7-10 different species of birds, a squirrel and a salamandar. The sounds are incredible and just watching nature seems to ground me. I know yesterday, I felt a bit lonely but as I started to watch my nature show in my backyard I realized how not alone I really am.

I encourage all of you to "Feel the day," and if you feel up to it we'd love to hear what you saw or felt. Just know, we are all in this together. If there is anything you need or if you even just want to talk - feel free to reach out. You can PM us at any time.

Feel Your Day!
Annemaria
