Fishing Report for Percy Priest Lake – September 15, 2024
The weather yesterday at Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, TN, was typical of early fall – cool with a light breeze, signaling that the seasons are changing quickly. Water temperatures in the lake are dropping fast with the cooler weather, creating a noticeable shift in fish behavior. The thermocline has dropped to around 45 feet, and baitfish have become scattered throughout the lake. Hybrids and stripers are moving into deeper waters, holding on channel drops and in the deeper sections near the mouths of creeks as they start schooling up for winter.
During this transition period, the most effective technique has been pulling deep-diving crankbaits at varying depths. The key is to troll fast and cover as much water as possible because the fish could be anywhere. Slower fishing methods, like live bait, aren’t producing results—if anything, they’re more likely to waste your time. While A-rigs have produced some small white bass and small hybrids, the big fish are showing a preference for fast-moving baits, making crankbaits the better choice right now.
As the water temperature continues to drop, and baitfish move closer to the bottom, jigging spoons should become more effective soon. If you want to master this more challenging transition period, we’re here to show you the ropes. Send us a message and book your trip today, and let’s get you on some fish!
