Mount Airy/Surry County Airport has started its new terminal construction project, is nearing the paving phase of its taxiway extension project and close to completion on its new commercial hangar project. Find out more by watching!

Airport's New Terminal, Taxiway Extension and Commercial Hangar

The parallel taxiway extension project at Mount Airy/Surry County Airport has progressed nicely since April. Dirt compaction is complete and gravel has been laid for the outline of the new pavement. The project addresses safety for the larger planes that use the Airport. Surry on the Go will cover this, the new corporate hangar project and the new terminal project, which is in its beginning phases, in an upcoming piece!

Mount Airy/Surry County Airport is constructing a new 100x80 commercial hangar! We're excited about the expansion and encourage you to watch this video below, which is airing on Surry County's new TV station and streaming app, Surry on the Go!

Surry on the Go is a free TV station that features local info, weather and high school sports. Elkin, Pilot Mountain, Mount Airy, Dobson, Surry County and the public schools within Surry County all have programming on Surry on the Go. The streaming app is available on Roku, Fire, Apple TV, Android smartphones and tablets and Apple smartphones and tablets. The channel is also available on Surry Communications Cable Channel 7 and will be on Spectrum/Charter Cable. To download Surry on the Go, type surryonthego as one word in Roku, Fire, Apple TV, Play Store and App Store.

Car Show Makes Summer Return to Airport

(Dobson, N.C.) – A popular event held at the Mount Airy/Surry County Airport last Fall is back by popular demand. The 2nd Annual Auto Show and Fly In at the Airport, presented by Speedology Solutions, LLC, will be held this June.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022, with a rain date of Saturday, June 18, 2022. Times are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’re very excited to be partnering again with Speedology Solutions, LLC,” Airport Manager George Crater said. “They do a great job of coordinating, and Airport staff provides the facility and handles aviation needs throughout the day.”

While the car show in 2021 was a great success and food trucks fared well, the rain impacted attendance. Over 120 domestic, import, classic and exotic vehicles were on hand.

Organizers of the 2022 show are hopeful that beautiful summer weather will boost attendance. Additionally, one difference will be that motorcycle owners are invited to show off their steel horses.

“I expect it to be even better this year,” Crater said.

Food trucks, awards, prizes/giveaways, vendors and a DJ will again be part of the festivities.

Auto show entries will be $20 and fans can enter the grounds for $5.
