What an incredible 1st day of our 4th Annual Fly Into Reading Friday - Summer Reading Series! Make sure you check out our 2026 FIRF album for all the pictures we are taking!

It was amazing to see what can happen when a community comes together to invest in its children. We were thrilled to welcome so many families to the airport for a warm afternoon filled with stories, learning, and fun.

A special thank you to Sheriff Ledbetter for helping us kick off the series in such a memorable way. The children were thrilled to see support vehicles on display from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Jackson County Fire Protection, and City of Moss Point Fire Department. These dedicated public heroes not only protect our communities every day, but also took the time to talk to our next generation and encourage a love of reading in our young readers.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners (like Jackson-George Regional Library System) who made this event possible. Your support helps us continue to create meaningful experiences that inspire and educate the next generation.

This past Friday was a perfect reminder that we are more than an Airport, more than a City, and more than a County, we are a COMMUNITY! When organizations, first responders, businesses, and families come together, amazing things happen!

Thank you to everyone who attended, and we look forward to seeing you at our next Fly Into Reading Friday event this week!

Part 4

Upon activation, the airport retained the IATA code PGL from its predecessor while being assigned the FAA Location Identifier (LID) PQL and ICAO code KPQL. These designations facilitated standardized aviation operations and reflected the facility's modern establishment as a county-owned public-use airport covering 500 acres. The initial infrastructure included a single asphalt runway (17/35) measuring 6,501 feet by 150 feet, paved to support a range of general aviation aircraft and laid the foundation for future growth in the early 1990's.

Key developments in the early 1990's focused on operational enhancements to accommodate increasing regional traffic. A control tower was not immediately operational at activation but became a priority for safety and efficiency as air activity grew. By the mid-2000s, plans advanced for tower construction at the south end of the runway, with rehabilitation of the existing asphalt surface to boost weight-bearing capacity from 65,000lbs Duel Wheel to 196,000lbs duel Wheel (PCN 57), enabling handling of larger jets.

Another Rainy Day? The Work Doesn't Stop at Trent Lott International Airport!

While weather may slow aircraft operations from time to time, there's always work to be done behind the scenes to keep the airport safe, efficient, and ready for the next arrival.

On days like today, our team is busy with:
🔧 Facility maintenance and repairs
🌱 Groundskeeping and vegetation management
🚧 Airfield inspections
💡 Lighting and equipment checks
📋 Planning and administrative projects
🛫 Preparing for future growth and improvements

An airport is much more than planes taking off and landing, it's a complex operation that requires year round attention, regardless of the weather.

We're proud of the dedicated airport team and all the teams like ATC, ARFF, and our FBO that keep Trent Lott International Airport operating safely and efficiently every day!
