THEY HAD BEEN SAYING “ONE OF THESE DAYS” FOR 12 YEARS… ✈️💛
Every few months, one of them would send the other a picture.
A little seaside town.
A beautiful resort.
A café tucked along a cobblestone street.
“We need to go here!”
The response was always the same.
“One of these days, we're going to do it!”
But one of these days kept getting pushed aside.
There were careers. Children. Grandchildren. Aging parents. Houses that needed something. Unexpected expenses. And calendars that never seemed to cooperate.
They were still best friends.
But somewhere along the way, their friendship had become texts, birthday calls and promises to get together soon.
Then one afternoon, another travel picture arrived.
This time, the reply was different.
“Instead of sending me places we should go…pick one.”
So they did.
A few months later, they were standing in a place they had once only seen in pictures.
They drank coffee outside in the morning sunshine.
They wandered into shops without caring what time it was.
They dressed up for dinner, ordered a bottle of w**e and laughed about things they hadn't thought about in twenty years.
And one evening, while watching the sun disappear into the horizon, one of them became unusually quiet.
“What are you thinking about?” her friend asked.
She smiled.
“I'm thinking we should have done this years ago.”
Her friend reached over and squeezed her hand.
“No. We did it when we finally understood how important it was.”
Maybe that's the lesson.
Friendships don't only need texts saying, “We need to get together.”
They need mornings over coffee.
Wrong turns.
Inside jokes.
Pictures you'll laugh about later.
Sunsets you experience together.
And stories that begin with…
“Remember when we…?”
Maybe there will always be a reason to wait.
But eventually, “one of these days” has to become “we're doing it.”
Call your friend.
Pick the place.
Make the plan.
And go make the memory. ✈️💛
