Petit Jean update: Got a LOT of really good news about Petit Jean this year. First, I’ve had a tremendous amount of help from Jeff Denman and I’m confident with all that’s happened in the background, the fly-in wouldn’t have happened without him.

The long-time airport manager is no longer there. Jeff helped me submit a proposal to take it over, however, as of right now, the state park is managing the airport (and they are already doing a great job!)

There is now finally a gate with a keypad and I’m no longer required to be there when pilots show up (former manager wouldn’t let anyone else run the fly-in and required me to be there). The bathroom/showers have been updated with paint and look brand new, the park (along with Jeff) has been working to get the grass cut, the campgrounds have been cleaned and updated, and some other updates around the area.

They did require us to file a permit and it looked like we were going to be required to have a 2 million dollar liability insurance policy, which would have canceled our event unless someone wanted to pay the 2,000 for the policy. Jeff has been working with the park and it’s been determined that we actually don’t need that policy, so that is a HUGE relief.

The weather forecast is looking stunning for us with highs in the low 80’s and lows at night in the low 60’s. As of right now, all weather models show no chances of rain.

I’ve got some changes that I’ll announce in the next post about safety and making sure we are welcomed back in the next years

Following the weekend for powered parachutes is a RV fly-in where they'll have folks from all over the nation flying to Petit Jean. For those that haven't been to Petit Jean, this is the Mather Lodge restaurant. Great food and gorgeous views! They close at 8 and time change is later this year so go eat early then fly!
