If you’ve ever worked with us, you know we’re a small team that’s dedicated to putting out top quality work. We don’t take shortcuts or rush jobs to simply move onto the next! So, whether we’re dialing in a new install, fabricating custom parts in the shop, or performing boat yoga inside a tight bilge… We’re often away from the phone!

Our goal is and always has been, to provide top-quality work, and customer service, at fair prices. In an effort to reduce games of phone tag, buried text messages, or notes written on the back of a cardboard box while we’re inside of a console, we have been working behind the scenes on a customer portal, which includes a Service Request Form.

We encourage you to visit our website, www.moreheadmarine.com/serviceportal to submit new job requests, get info on our VIP program, or simply keep tabs on the projects we’re working on. Bookmark it, as there is more to come soon!

Despite the weather, we hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend!

Social media is often referred to as a highlight reel, and for good reason; rarely the bad stuff is posted. While that can be true for us at times, if you’ve followed along, we will often post our mistakes as well, and have no problem doing so because that’s how we learn and improve. Scrolling here, youll see a lot of pretty dash panels, new electronics installs, switch panels, etc, but rarely do they show the backside!

This Garlington has been a huge project. What started as a derig/rerig for paint, then a helm layout update (but using the existing Garmin displays/wiring), to a full Furuno electronics package which includes 3 displays, 2 ducers, 3 sonar modules, 2 satcoms, radar, autopilot, etc… along with a rework of power distribution to ensure breakers are sized properly, a rework of the bridge battery backup, so it can power both 12v and 24v electronics, and multiple custom panels.

On the surface, she’s going to look incredible, but the parts we are most excited about are behind the scenes… The full system was extensively planned, circuits sized properly, labels that make sense, and our lead tech Andrew is absolutely killing the helm wiring and finished up the bridge distribution this week (and some before photos, for good measure).

Have some super cool stuff going in this build, lot of custom parts, and getting excited seeing the finish line ahead! We are obviously biased, but work like this is worth waiting for, and can’t wait for the owner to step on the boat for the first time after she’s all put back together - That’s the best part of the process!

Solving problems is the name of our game. When you hire Morehead Marine, you don’t just get a parts swapper, you get a team dedicated to overthinking every problem to ultimately provide you the best solution… When we redid the dash last year, the throttle just barely touched the VHF mic cable when full forward… Brought it back to us a few weeks ago to have it serviced, new throttle and shift cables, and decided to swap to the new binnacle as well. We drew up and cut a wedge just to give it a bit more clearance between the binnacle and VHF. Haven’t fully installed yet, but should be any further issues now!

Need a throttle wedge or other custom parts? We can help! (252) 528-1919

Not every boat needs an extensive rewire to make it function and feel “like new” again. Got this Tidewater skiff finished up, owner was starting to have some issues with stuff intermittently not working, corroded connections behind the switch panel and the negative bus, and wiring in the console was a bit of a rats nest.

His idea was a new generic switch panel, bail mount the new Garmin on top of console, and just do a general clean up or connections… After looking it over and discussing options, he opted for a custom dash panel, flush mounted Garmin and integrated switches right into the panel. New fuse block in the console, new terminals throughout, added a battery switch, and a few lugs. Since we fabricate these parts in-house, the customer likely got a better product, for less.

Behind the scenes, we are constantly trying to improve our work, as well as the customer experience. Have been swamped this year, trying to get winter projects finished up and new projects going. Scheduling jobs is by far the hardest part about this business; projects snowball, boats get hauled out unexpectedly, parts don fit as expected, wire chases are full, etc… We are working on automating some of our job entry and tracking process, keeping better tabs on our actual backlog, and hoping to bring on additional help soon! The ultimate goal right now is to improve job updates and communication, that’s been the major struggle for the past year.

If you’d like to get on the schedule, the quickest way is to email your contact info, as well as any details of the boat and the job request to [email protected] - Long hours on the boats this time of year makes getting back via phone call challenging, and email helps us better track things!

We are far from the best at anything, but you can be certain that everything on your project was overthought, and even the smallest of details like bolt lengths or direction of zip ties, has been considered. We try incredibly hard to build systems that are robust and easy to use, but also look nice.

Just finished polishing this custom bracket for a raw water washdown hose. On almost every center console ever, you’ll see a laying on the deck, sometimes on a hook, or in the splash well. We are moving the inlet inside the transom storage box so the hose stays hidden when not in use. A bracket that most will never see, and really doesn’t matter much at the end of the day, but it’s one minor detail among many that brings the entire project together.

Starting to make it through winter projects, still a few weeks out on new work, but if you want to get on the list for new projects, now’s the time! Shoot us an email with your project details and we’ll be in touch!

We’re also actively trying to recruit the best techs in Carteret County to allow us to take on more work, and also finish projects more quickly. If you know someone that may be interested, send them our way!

Follow up to this mornings story post, our daily problem solving activity 😆… Blueprint recently had an Omni installed and the tube location interfered with the original transducer placement. We derigged it prior to removal, and once the tube went in, it was reinstalled about 5’ aft of the original location, centered between the engines. When we went to re-run the cable and connect back to sonar, had some concerns about the studs sticking up in a “high traffic” spot, and felt the cable was susceptible to damage. Drew up a protective cover which uses the transducer studs to mount, along with a notched center support to keep the cable secure, cut on CNC from starboard. Wrapped the visible section of cable in white split loom down the stringer for a bit of added protection there. Just before connecting back to the sonar, we shot it with the TDT-1000 to ensure it was still performing within spec, and she’s good to go!

Hope to see her at the scales at this years

Nothing more permanent than a temporary solution, as the saying goes. Viking 61’ headed to Curacao with the new owners, lost power over the weekend. Went out and troubleshot, found L2 on the primary winding of the transformer had burnt up. First goal was to restore power, even more important with the upcoming forecast! Existing shore cord on Glendinning reel is extremely stiff, has a burnt up end, doesn’t have a neutral conductor, and of course the other reel is broke. No neutral coming into the boat means simply bypassing the transformer wasn’t possible. Glued a piece of pvc and mounted a terminal block to top of failed transformer and used a temporary cord from the pedestal to get power back up. Next step is to replace the old cord with a new one, troubleshoot their secondary reel/cord, and get them a solid working solution until they can get back home, and replace the transformer.

It’s never straightforward and often times requires some out of the box thinking. Call us today, although you’re not thinking about it with this cold weather 🥶, boating season is just around the corner! (252) 528-1919

How it started vs. how it’s going… And the process to get there. Usually several ideas are tossed around first, a rough sketch and some measurements on paper, foam board “proof of concept” is made and adjusted to fit, final part is then made off that, and if plastic installed, but in this case, the plywood was also laminated with black Formica to match existing cabinetry. No CNC work on this one, but that adds another layer of complexity to a custom part.

We ripped out all the old, outdated stereo equipment, coax switches, DVR, battery backup, etc (check out all those remotes they needed in the last pic!)from the lower cabinet, but still wanted a simple stereo in the salon. Designed and built this small cabinet insert to install the stereo in an easy to use spot, hide the wiring, and look like it has been there all along! Will build a small laminated cover inside the lower cabinet to cover up the amp and associated wiring. Salon stereo is networked with the bridge so the owner/guests have the option to listen to two different things, or sync audio throughout the boat!

If you’ve got an idea, we can help make it happen… Call us today! (252) 528-1919

Arts and crafts day here at the Morehead Marine shop. The Baby Js primary shore inlet was protected with an isolation transformer, but not the secondary. We’re installing a second, but working with limited space in this cabinet behind the TV is making it tight! Lots of measurements, several ideas and iterations on how to best stack them, or potentially pushing forward into seating storage space, while doing our best to keep connections accessible for future troubleshooting… but we’ve come up with an idea we think should work. Made and test-fit a foam board template this afternoon and intend to build the final part tomorrow.

We likely spend more time on decisions like this than we should, and are for sure our worst critics, but at the end of the day we can say we put out the best work we can and presented what we felt was the best option for every decision, large or small.

How can we help you get ready for next season? Now is the time to get your maintenance and upgrades completed! (252) 528-1919
