Ken Spann and Valorie Barnica, owners of The Y Bar Hitch, LLC, proudly feature rare chesnut-colored Suffolk Punch draft horses. At it's inception, the hitch was led by Bert, a fearless and steadfast lead mare that passed after an injury in July of 2014. It still features Nell, her daughter, and registered Suffolk Punch geldings Rebel, Rowdy, Sam, and Levi. They have recently been joined by Riverwi
lde Chester, another matched registered gelding, who interestingly happens to be Rebel's nephew and Hank's Blue Moon Doc, an experienced registered big gelding. Together, they pull forecarts at work, a hay wagon, a beautiful oak buckboard wagon, an authentic full size chuckwagon, and of course, the big oak, national class hitch wagon. Matched in color and tones, the 6-up together, our fast moving 4-up, or our elegant wheel teams make striking images across Western Colorado. Eagle Ridge Goldie and Eagle Ridge Rose, beautiful foundation Suffolk Punch 3 year old fillies imported from Eagle Ridge Suffolks of Louis Creek, British Columbia represent the future of The Y Bar Hitch. Their training began in earnest in the fall of 2014. They have been joined in April of 2015 by Eagle Ridge Mae and Eagle Ridge Diamond, Goldie's 4 and 5 year old full sisters also imported from British Columbia. Equally at home in the "hitch" or pulling a forecart at work at Spann Ranches, Suffolk Punches have found a home in Colorado!
