Santa's Workshop - Monticello, WI

Santa's Workshop - Monticello, WI Santa's Workshop is about giving local children a safe, low-cost option to "buy" Christmas gifts for Oh, the joy on the face of a child on Christmas morning!

And any adult who has ever watched a child present a gift to someone else on Christmas knows that there is more excitement and joy in that one gift than in all the gifts the child opens herself. Santa's Workshop is about allowing every child to experience the joy of giving and giving parents the safe place to allow that to happen. Every December, Santa comes to Monticello and visits children at th

e fire station. On that same day, Santa's elves set up a workshop in the nearby church for children to safely pick out Christmas gifts for their loved ones. The fire department graciously gives kids (and their parents, if they want!) a ride on a fire truck to the church, and the parents get to visit with each other while the children enter the workshop. Once inside, the normally ordinary room is transformed into a special place filled with gift ideas of all kinds! There are special elves from the Monticello High School Chapter of National Honor Society, and these elves help the little ones find just the right gifts, then get them securely wrapped so that they are ready to put under the Christmas tree. All without parents ever seeing a thing! The gifts are donated from community members - some brand new items, some very gently used. Parents are asked to make a donation for their child's purchases, whatever they feel is appropriate (recommend 50 cents to $1 per item), and funds are used to prepare for the following year's workshop. Any extra funds are given to Monticello Empty Stocking Fund to make sure that all families in the Monticello area have a good holiday.

🎅Santa Claus is coming to town!! Santa will make his annual pre-Christmas visit to Monticello on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Monticello Fire Station. While Santa greets the children there and hears their wishes for Christmas, his elves are working hard to set up a special shop for the children to buy gifts for their family members. The Workshop will be open from 11 AM to 1:30 PM for kids to shop before or after seeing Santa. Santa’s Workshop can’t happen without your help.

🎄As always, Santa’s elves (Monticello National Honor Society members) look to the local community for donations of small gift items that the children can “buy” for their parents and siblings and grandparents. Donations can be handled the same as in past years. If you have any new or like-new items to donate, please feel free to drop them off at Zwingli UCC or during business hours at Tri-Insure at 140 N Main Street, Monticello.

🎁Each year people ask what they should donate. The original goal of the workshop was for kids to be able to buy gifts for their parents, grandparents and even siblings. So any small gift that you could see a child giving to their parents, grandparents, or siblings would be great! Each year we find that the quickest items off the shelves at the workshop are men’s gifts. Men’s gift ideas can be new decks of playing cards, hand tools, travel mugs, work gloves, flashlights, etc. Other gift ideas are holiday decorations or trinkets, unused candles, new bottles of lotion, jewelry, coffee mugs, scarves, etc. Any type of kids' gifts have flown off the shelves as well. Since our elves help wrap every gift, wrapping paper, gift bags (used and in condition works well) and tissue paper are also appreciated!

As you may have noticed in the school newsletter, Santa's Workshop has been cancelled this year. We hope to be back up and running again next year! Please keep in mind that Christmas is not cancelled, just our option for gift giving from kids. To keep all our helpers and kids safe, we encourage the kids to make homemade gifts this year to give family and friends. Help them make cookies or art crafts. Be creative and feel free to share your ideas of what kids come up with for gift ideas! If your family is struggling this year and needs assistance from the Empty Stocking Fund, please keep an eye out for more information in the Post Messenger Recorder and the school newsletter. We are a community that works together to support each other. Don't be afraid to reach out for help when needed. Please have a safe and happy holiday season!

We are grateful for any and all donations for this annual event. As always, gifts for men are especially appreciated - they are the hardest to find and the first to go! If you would like to donate any gift items (new or like-new condition, please), you can drop them at either Monticello church (Zwingli UCC or Washington Reformation UCC), or bring them to Tri-Insure (145 N Main Street, Monticello) during regular business hours (8 to 5, Monday through Friday). If you need to make other arrangements, please send us a message and we'll connect you with one of our elves. Thank you!
