Great news! The new multi-use trail extension in Sand City is now open to the community!

This extension is part of the SURF! Project, which will extend the Beach Range Road for about a mile total.

The area is still under construction as we build the roundabout that buses will use to leave the busway safely and merge onto traffic.

To enter the new bike lane extension and continue on to Seaside and Marina, please use the bike lane at the end of Playa Avenue, next to HomeGoods.

Heads up, there's one more detour ahead, so State Parks can keep building the new campground.

Service animals are welcome on every MST bus. Here are some tips for riding successfully with your service animal:

- When boarding the bus, drivers may ask two questions: Is the animal required because of a disability? And what work or task has the animal been trained to perform?
- Service animals ride for free. Handlers must pay their fare.
- Service animals don’t need to be caged, but they must remain under the handler’s control at all times, either at their feet or on their lap, never on the seat!
- Service animals can’t act aggressively toward people or other animals, and they can’t distract other service animals from their tasks.
- If an animal’s behavior threatens the safety of the driver or other passengers, the team and animal may be asked to leave the bus.

Emotional support animals and pets must be caged to ride with their owners on buses.

Please note: knowingly misrepresenting a pet as a service animal is a misdemeanor under California law.

We're happy to share that construction at the Playa Avenue and California Avenue intersection is now complete. You can once again access the Sand City Shopping Center using your regular routes, and MST passengers may board their buses at Sand City as usual.

Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) has launched a new pilot ride voucher program in partnership with Uber to provide seniors, veterans and people with disabilities in rural and underserved areas of Monterey County with mobility options.

The seniors, veterans and people with disabilities in the communities of Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, Pajaro, Prunedale, and Castroville who have no access to taxi service now have an option.

The Uber Voucher Pilot Program offers eligible residents discounted Uber rides through a wallet-based system that loads transportation credits directly into participants’ Uber accounts.

“This partnership helps expand transportation options for residents in communities where mobility can be a challenge,” said Carl Sedoryk, General Manager/CEO of Monterey-Salinas Transit. “By combining public transit funding with innovative technology, we can provide a flexible transportation solution that helps people get where they need to go, when they need to go.”

Under the program, eligible residents enroll through MST and sign a participant acknowledgment and waiver. Participants contribute $3 per trip for up to 10 vouchers per month, while MST provides a $14 credit for each voucher through the Uber platform. Participants will receive a voucher link invitation by email or text once the invitation has been accepted and the 10 voucher trips are credited to their Uber wallet. Every time a trip is requested on the app, a $14 trip credit is applied for that trip. Once credits are loaded into a participant’s Uber wallet, rides can be taken for any purpose with no trip restrictions. Unused Uber Voucher credits are non-transferable and will expire each month. The program is funded through a shared-cost partnership between MST and Uber. Uber is contributing $50,000 toward program costs and providing access to its app platform and driver network. MST’s Measure Q serves as the primary funding source for costs beyond Uber’s contribution, ensuring local transportation sales tax revenues are used to support improved mobility options for seniors, veterans, and disabled residents of Monterey County.

As part of the SURF! Busway and Bus Rapid Transit Project, Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will be upgrading the intersection of Playa Ave. and California Ave. by installing new traffic signals, making the area safer for residents, visitors, and increasing bus service. A portion of Playa Ave. between California Ave. and Del Monte Blvd. will be fully closed for the duration of this work. This information is being shared in advance to notify our neighbors of the expected impact and to help businesses plan ahead.

September 20 at 7 p.m. through September 24 at 6 a.m.: The section of Playa Ave. between California Ave. and Del Monte Blvd. will be fully closed. Access to Edgewater Shopping Center will be maintained via Metz Rd. and via California at the Panera entrance. Access to Sand Dollar Shopping Center will be maintained via Tioga Ave. and Metz Rd.

Temporary Bus Stop Closure: Sand City Station bus stops will be temporarily out of service. Riders will be directed to use the HomeGoods stop at the western end of Playa Ave.

Sidewalk Access: Sidewalks on both sides of Playa Ave. will be affected during different phases of work, but one sidewalk will remain open at all times
