Weather-sealed bike transmissions that are currently on the market are the Rohloff (internal hub), Shimano (internal hub) and Pinion (internal gearbox). Though they meet the main goal of keeping the transmission clean they weigh more, cost more or required a custom frame (or all three). If another option were available at the same price and weight as a derailleur, that could fit on a commonly-available frame, would you be interested. Take a look at the Speedcase from Pedalmotive.

In the next few days I'll be putting a catalog on the website of various transmissions that have been patented, prototyped or produced for bike in the last few decades. It will be in the form of a blog, so I'll be soliciting your suggestions for additions.

This weekend I dusted off the 2 latest prototypes and put one on a bench fixture for demonstration and evaluation. Photo and video below. This week I'll be meeting with the Madworks directors and participants to make business plans. I'm looking for a fabricator to help make the next prototype, an OEM version. If you're good at machining, welding and prototyping and are in the Madison area contact me and let's see if we can get together to help more people get where they want to go under their own power.

Last week Pedal Motive was selected by MadWorks Madison for its business accelerator cohort of Summer 2019. The 10-week program will provide administrative and fundraising support and a stipend at completion. The program started this week. Look for updates, new prototypes and a new website coming soon as a result.
