A container can travel thousands of miles, move between multiple modes of transportation and be handled repeatedly throughout its service life.

Knowing how to properly evaluate its condition matters.

Professional container inspection provides a consistent process for identifying damage, evaluating condition and determining appropriate repair requirements based on established criteria.

That's one reason we're investing in IICL training and certification for members of our SIX Depot team.

As our depot operations grow, we're building the technical knowledge behind them at the same time.

The best operational improvements don't happen in a conference room.

They happen in the yard.

Our team continues its hands-on training in Houston with Global Container Industries, working directly within depot operations to better understand the systems, processes and workflows behind an experienced operation.

We're looking closely at what works, asking questions and gaining firsthand experience that we can bring back to our teams in Mobile and New Orleans.

The objective is simple: take what we learn, adapt it to our operations and continue building SIX Depot into a stronger resource for our customers across the Gulf Coast.

You've heard us mention IICL certification — but what does it actually mean?

The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) establishes widely recognized standards and practices for the inspection and repair of marine containers.

For a container inspector, IICL certification demonstrates technical knowledge of container inspection criteria, damage assessment and repair standards.

For SIX Depot, developing IICL-certified expertise within our own team is another step toward expanding the level of service and technical knowledge available at our Mobile and New Orleans operations.

It's an investment in our people — and ultimately, an investment in the service we provide our customers.

Meet Anthony Zelaya, one of the newest additions to our SIX Depot team in New Orleans.

Anthony is currently in Houston completing a month of hands-on training with the team at Global Container Industries.

He's working alongside experienced, certified IICL professionals to learn container inspection practices while gaining firsthand experience with depot systems, workflows and day-to-day operations. Anthony is also working toward becoming IICL certified.

That experience will come back with him to New Orleans as we continue investing in the people and expertise behind SIX Depot.

Meet Bennett Thompson, one of the newest members of the Southern Intermodal Xpress team.

Bennett is joining our SIX Depot operation in Mobile and is currently spending a month in Houston training alongside experienced, certified IICL professionals at Global Container Industries.

During his time in Houston, Bennett is gaining hands-on experience in container inspection, depot operations, systems and processes while also working toward his IICL certification.

When he returns to Mobile, he'll bring that training and knowledge with him as we continue expanding the capabilities of SIX Depot.

Southern Intermodal Xpress is growing and we’re investing in the expertise behind that growth.

Members of our team are currently in Houston working alongside the experienced team at Global Container Industries, gaining hands-on exposure to depot systems, operations, processes and workflows.

The goal is bigger than training.

We’re studying proven processes, learning from an experienced operation and identifying ways to bring those systems and operational knowledge back to our SIX Depot locations in Mobile and New Orleans.

As we expand what SIX Depot can provide, we’re making the investments now — in our people, processes and equipment — to build stronger depot operations for our customers across the Gulf Coast.
