In addition to artwork, he builds Turkey Mouth Calls & the Tougher Than a Stuffer Decoy. I call myself the Gobbler Geek because of my love of the wild turkey. I've made a career of designing artwork using Turkey feathers. In addition to my popular Feather Art creations, I also hand craft turkey mouth calls and am the creator of the Tougher Than a Stuffer turkey decoy.

I’m occasionally asked if I put glass on my feather Art and the answer is always “no.” Primarily because as an artist, I create original pieces of artwork and glass is reserved for copies or reproductions, not originals.

In addition, one of the highlights of Feather Art is the iridescent feathers. The glare from the glass reduces this effect.

For anyone concerned about damage to their feathers, rest assured that won’t be a problem with my method. Years ago, before I came up with the idea of making artwork out of my turkey feathers, I was making turkey decoys that are “tougher than a stuffer.” I use the same process in my artwork that I developed with my decoys. If my decoys can take a beating in the field, your artwork will be safe on your wall!

I’ve been reminiscing this week about artwork I’ve done in the past, particularly the Grand Slams I’ve completed. This set is from 2024. It’s the only Royal Slam I’ve completed for a customer where I’ve had all the birds at the same time. Turned out pretty cool.

Another old video I found of a Grand Slam I did for a customer in 2024. The more rustic diamond frame gives a different look than the Minimalist style I highlighted in yesterday’s video. I like both styles!

I was looking through old pictures this week of the variety of Feather Art I’ve created over the years. There were so many good ones of the Grand Slams I had to share some videos of a few of the pieces. This first video features my minimalist style frame. Customers have the option of grouping them tightly together to give the illusion of one piece of art or leaving some space between each of the four frames.

In the eight years since I created Feather Art I’ve been lucky to work on numerous Grand Slams and even a Royal Slam. Often, I don’t have all the birds at the same time, but I was fortunate to get some good grouped shots of these beauties!

My original rectangle design with my rustic, gray frame really gives off a “lodge” feel while showcasing some beautiful artwork. This is going to look so good hanging on the owner’s wall!

This has to be one of my favorites! The feathers and colors blend together so well and the iridescence is AMAZING!

Hard to top the colors on this bird!

This Gould’s turkey from Mexico went to Alaska then Wisconsin. Next stop is Nebraska before heading home to Alaska again! The customer wanted to make the most of her Gould’s hunt and I was happy to provide my diamond minimalist, a small abstract piece, and my 8x10 frame to preserve the memories.

Does the size the size of your turkey matter when doing Feather Art? Jeff clears up a common misconception in today’s video.
