This image, taken from a 1961 edition of The Voice of Middletown, shows construction of the MWO runway. The photo was captured in May 1961.

At the time, the runway project was a 5,100-foot paving effort. It has since been extended to 6,100 feet and now includes a fueling station and a full-service fixed-base operator.

It was great to have a class of student from the local Middletown schools come down and learn about aviation. Lots of a great questions and discussion had taken place. We hope the students enjoyed their time on the field trip!

You never know what you'll see at the MWO!

From Smith Park you can see all kinds of aircrafts landing at the Middletown Regional Airport. This is a Sikorsky S-58JT helicopter. This model is commonly used for heavy‑lifting and utility work, with a lifting capacity of about 4,500 lbs. It features a 56‑foot, four‑bladed main rotor—an impressive machine to watch in action!

We have seen great progress on the new Butler Tech Aviation facility at the airport!

Butler Tech’s $15 million Aviation Hangar is rising from construction dust next to the city’s air strip and teachers and administrators in the fast-growing program recently got their first tour of the state-of-the-art school’s construction site.
