Life — a dream or hard work?

Imagine escaping the daily routine of work and turning your favourite hobby into a money spinner? You can book a yacht on Getboat.com for the first time and tomorrow already make yachting your reason to live. Below are 3 examples of how to make money in the sea!

Start a sailing blog.
Instagram, Youtube, Patreon — if you will work hard for this kind of platforms they will be profitable enough. Donations, advertising, brand collaborations and free stuff. Truly dream life!
One of the earliest and best of these examples is Sailing SV Delos, a core group of four very media-savvy people cruising on an Amel Super Maramu. They make nearly $14,000 a video from 1,800 paying patrons and can create up to four episodes a month. Besides the donations they have profit from youtube monetization and integrations. As carefree as these videos might look, this can turn into a full-time job: the ‘adventures’ need storyboarding, shooting and a huge amount of editing time.

Sailing La Vagabonde is another now famous vlog channel. Riley Whitelum’s and Elayna Carausu’s travel and lifestyle videos have a huge following and, with 1,800 paying patrons, they earn just shy of $10,000 per episode. They recently got a new yacht by leasing a new Outremer catamaran – this is a serious business.

One couple who did just that are Tasha and Ryan Hacker. In 2015 they sold their education business and purchased a new Fontaine Pajot Helia 44, which they named Cheeky Monkey. Over the next 18 months sailed her across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Through the trip Tasha turned to film-making and started a YouTube channel called Chase the Story. Although she had no prior experience as a film-maker, she had a number of transferable skills such as marketing and communication which allowed her to swiftly grow her audience and increase exposure.

I can't afford a vacation on a yacht!

When someone says the word yacht, we hold our breath, the hand reaches into the pocket to check whether the wallet is still there, and a picture of a millionaire in sunglasses and a thick gold chain around his neck appears in mind.

The myth that a yacht is expensive is one of the most popular misconceptions associated with the yacht business. No one disputes that buying a yacht for your own use is a pleasure for chosen ones. But everyone can rent a boat for a vacation! For an example: participation in one of the largest regattas on the Mediterranean sea, Marmaris Race Week, will cost you 750 euros per week, including accommodation and travel on a yacht.

Everyone who goes sailing knows the life hack: get your friends hooked on yachting — and your hobby will become much cheaper. All you need is to gather at least 5-6 people and find a base yacht with a captain. Then the cost of a week's hike is unlikely to be more than 500 - 600 euros per person (plus food that you will take with you, and fuel for which you pay separately).

In addition to paying for your stay, for this amount you will get the opportunity to see the country from the sea as you have never seen it before. Every day you will discover new towns and bays, restaurants and shops, castles on the mountains and nature reserves and you will never see such a clean sea near tourist centers.

You can check whether this is true on the website Getboat.com. Hurry up!

Finding a yacht for your charter and a captain to take you and your friends for a sea adventure is exactly what we do at Getboat.com, so feel free to check all of the above right away!

Renting yachts and sailing under the hired captain’s leadership is one thing, but being a skipper yourself has just a totally different feel in it.

With this post we are launching a new feature called "How to become a skipper” where we will walk you through all the steps of becoming a real sea captain. Aye aye, sir!

Today we will discuss the most important thing — how do I get a skipper's license?

Well, first of all, you need to do some learning and training.

The scoop is very similar to one of a driving school: there is also a test on theory and a practice exam.

But there are two approaches.

The first implies that you study the theory and all issues related to yachting separately: from design to navigation. The main advantage of this option is that you have several classes per week and you also can study in your city. Then you need to go for an internship, which usually lasts 7-10 days. If you pass it successfully, the instructor decides whether to grant you a license.

The second approach is usually a two-week intensive training. Practice here begins a few days after the start of theory and then you do a bit of practice and a bit of theory every day till the end of the course (which ends with an exam). This approach will need you to take a vacation from your job, obviously. The downside here is the need to learn a huge amount of theoretical material in a very short time, but on the upside you will be able to apply it on practice right on the spot, which makes it very easy to comprehend.

How to dress on a yacht?

Spoiler alert — you won’t get perfect solutions from anyone until you figure them out for yourself. Besides, the choice of clothes depends on many variables. We’ll share those options that will be a win-win choice for you regardless of particular circumstances.

Besides obvious T-shirts, shorts and swimsuits, for you to chill in the sun and enjoy the sea, you should bring a raincoat, a pair of shoes (not sandals!) with white non-slipping soles and a headwear: a baseball cap will do, but feel free to pick a hat if you are of a more stylish type.

Even if you go to a warm region and all forecasts promise heat, be sure to take warm clothes: a fleece, a sweatshirt, a light jacket or anorak — it can be chilly on the water in the evening. In colder regions you will not regret bringing to the boat a set of warm underwear, a thin down jacket and rubber boots, trust us . Bring your pajamas or sweatpants for sleep — yacht cabins are only heated in the northern seas, but pajamas will not hurt there either. Just imagine: a book in your hands, a dim light, a gentle sway, the sound of the sea and comfortable pajamas — what could be more romantic and more comfortable?

Tips from GetBoat.com on what you might also need from accessories department:

Yachting gloves. If you want (and you definitely do) to learn how to sail and participate in races, there’s no way without gloves — the ropes can burn or otherwise injure your hands.
Cool shades and sunscreen. Even during bad weather, it is easy to get sun-burned on a yacht and there is just no reason not to wear your shades when it’s sunny, right?
Laces for your eyeglasses and phone. Dropping a valuable item overboard may easily spoil an otherwise perfect vacation. A case with a strap for your favorite phone can be ordered online.
Powerbank. Sockets may not work while you are anchored which means no stories on Instagram!

How about a boat trip on the Cote d'Azur? And so that you can diversify your leisure time during the Charter, we tell you about the three secret Islands on the Cote d'Azur.

1. Île Gabi. Located very close to Marseille. You can get there by RIB or Charter yacht. The history of the island began in 1703: Louis XIV ordered to build a fortress here. But the interesting story began in the 1960s, when a local businessman decided to create an island club out of Île Gabi. Today, there is an elite beach club owned by the C2 hotel.

2. Île Verte. The best way to get here is 20 minutes trip from La Ciotat, a small French town. The scenery here is quite different from Île Gabi. The island belongs to the Kalanki national park: the entire territory is densely dotted with trees. There are three excellent beaches with azure waters.

3. Île de Bendor. In the 1950s, it was just an unremarkable island located near the commune of Bandol. But when Île de Bendor was bought by Paul Ricard, the territory became a tasty morsel for lovers of luxury holidays: swimming pools, vineyards, a tennis court, beautiful houses and an art gallery (the owner was on a first name basis with Salvador Dali himself). There is a private Marina on the island.
