ECO-FRIENDLY YACHTS

Great satisfaction is derived from being an owner of a GREEN technologically advanced MJM Yacht, spending half the time and dollars of your friends at the fuel dock and thus doing your part in preserving the environment for future generations. The MJM's are truly eco-yachts, the most environmentally oriented yachts made. If the marine industry and all boaters made the same con

tribution that MJM and its owners make in building and operating their vessels, the ecological impact would be huge. There are boats, the same size as the 40z, which can consume in half a day what the average automobile uses in a year. We are all connected globally through nature's ecological cycles, particularly the hydrological (water) cycle...evaporation of oceans and lakes into the atmosphere then falls back in the form of rain. When hydrocarbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels enter this "water" cycle, they have a harmful effect on the planet's ecology and human health. Acid rain and greenhouse gases are examples. By owning an MJM, you can halve the fuel consumption of your boating activities and markedly reduce the carbon impact from your boating activities in two significant ways:

REDUCE USE OF FOSSIL FUELS which contain:

Hydrocarbons which come from (a) partially burned fossil fuel molecules that form ground-level ozone, e.g. smog, one of which is Benzene that is toxic and may cause cancer and other health problems and (b) fuel evaporation when refueling. These hydrocarbons end up in the water, in bottom sediments, as surface film or are released in the atmosphere. They contain compounds that are linked to asthma, cancer, and genetic mutations. Particulates that are microscopic airborne particles coming from diesel engines that can damage the respiratory system. Nitrogen Oxides, formed by high pressure/temperature engines which form ozone and acid rain. Carbon Monoxide, a poisonous gas resulting from incomplete combustion. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions increase and engine fuel efficiency declines, contributing to the potential for global warming. USE INCREASED AMOUNTS OF BIO-DIESEL

Unlike fossil fuels, biodiesel is a low emissions, safer-to-handle, non-hazardous 95% bio-degradable fuel produced from renewable sources such as canola and soya bean. Chemically, it is defined as the mono alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids. Most biodiesel is sold as a blend, where the fuel is between 5% and 20% biodiesel, and the balance from conventional diesel. B100 biodiesel is now available almost anywhere.

History in the making… Congratulations to ! Get your Anniversary edition of Soundings Magazine today.

β€œ Doug Zurn has made a measurable impact with power boats that are both pretty and well-performing. He founded his design firm in 1993, and has since turned out more than 450 sail and power models. has contributed to the success of many brands, including , , and .
Zurn made a splash in 2004 with the Shelter Island Commuter, a collaboration among the designer, Marine and the singer-songwriter . The Grammy winner needed a way to commute from his home on Oyster Bay, Long Island, to New York City. Zurn gave the commuter-style yacht an appearance that he described as harking back to β€œa bygone era of Long Island Sound commuter boats” from the 1920s and '30s.
Zurn had a similar impact when he designed Joel's 57-foot, 45-knot Vendetta, with a goal of making it the fastest commuter yacht on Long Island Sound. β€œ - Kim Kavin
