“The International Longshoremen's Association, the union representing striking U.S. dockworkers at East and Gulf Coast ports, reached a tentative deal Thursday to suspend its strike until Jan. 15 to negotiate a new contract.

The strike had shut down 14 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts since Tuesday.

The deal was reached with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX), a shipping industry group representing terminal operators and ocean carriers.”

Draco knows the American and Brazilian markets and provides some interesting data on trade between the two countries.

From January to July 2024, the USA imported US$22.7 billion from Brazil, while exporting US$23.07 billion. Both exports and imports increased compared to the same period last year. Exports rose by 0.3%, while imports increased by 12.3%.

The most imported products by the USA from Brazil were:

• Petroleum;
• Semi-finished products, ingots, and other primary forms of iron or steel;
• Aircraft, including their parts;
• Cellulose.

The most exported products were:

• Non-electric engines and machinery, including their parts;
• Refined petroleum;
• Aircraft, including their parts;
• Ethylene polymers in primary forms;
• Coal and gas.
