The best way to protect the gelcoat finish on your boat is to wax your boat once or twice a year. Regular washing will also prolong the gelcoat's appearance and protection. Small airbourne particles of dirt constantly lands on the hull and deck of the boat, and if the boat is not washed regularly to remove the dirt, you are basically grinding it into the nonskid deck survaces and scratching the gelcoat as you come into contact with the boat .
