Another Bay Street Hoops in the books - my 9th year.
This year our Levaero Aviation team returned to the Men’s Competitive division, one of the toughest brackets out there, full of current and former collegiate and professional players. We battled through pool play to finish first at 2-1, won a hard-fought semifinal, and earned our spot in the final.
The final had everything you’d want: 40 minutes of great basketball, multiple lead changes, and a 10-point deficit with 5 minutes left. We clawed all the way back and gave ourselves a shot to tie it with 6 seconds on the clock. The shot fell short. We lost by 2.
It stings, but here’s the thing: the competition is the exciting part of the weekend, not the point of it.
Bay Street Hoops is the biggest charity basketball tournament in Canada. Now in its 32nd year, 56 teams, completely sold out. To date, the event has raised more than $3 million to give kids the opportunity to play sports - opportunities that change lives.
None of it happens without the incredible work of the tournament committee and the countless volunteers who pour their time and energy into making this weekend run. Thank you. You are the engine behind every dollar raised.
I’m proud to serve on the Board of Directors, and prouder still to be part of something this meaningful for this long.
To every company that loves a little competition and a lot of purpose: submit a team next year. You won’t regret it.
