Our group was formed by citizens who are dedicated to advocating animal welfare, community involvement and humane education to further the bond between people and animals and increase the adopt-ability of shelter animals. We endeavor to:

- build awareness in the community about the shelter;
- highlight our adoptable pets & work to increase pet adoptions;
- foster alliances with other animal rescue groups;
- offer community education & outreach highlighting the responsibilities of pet ownership;
- steer fundraising dollars towards agreed upon items not covered by the City of Mesquite Animal Shelter operational budget, such as extraordinary medical procedures, veterinary costs for animals transports to outside rescue groups, and lifestyle & facility upgrades for shelter animals;
- publicize lost animals in order to re-unite them with their owners.

PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING ONE OF THESE CATS A HOME. Shelter IS GETTING FULL OF THESE WONDERFUL ADULT CATS. A cage is no place for these cats who once had a home where they could be outside of a cage and enjoy a inside home.

These cats are looking for a forever home away from the shelter where they can be loved and cared for

Five reasons adult cats make great pets:

1. Adult cats already know who they are, so what you see is what you get. Lap cat or playful, cuddly or independent, an adult cat never bothers to hide its true personality.
2. Adult cats require less attention and supervision. They're quiet companions. They have well-developed manners about the litter box and the scratching post.
3. After a long day at work, you may just want to come home and curl up with a furry friend. An adult cat will be more than happy to sit with you after dinner and watch your favorite shows on TV. Adult cats are masters of serenity.
4. Adult cats may sleep at the foot of your bed, under the bed, or snuggled in with you. They are generally happy to sleep when you do.
5. Adult cats are usually better companions for the young and the elderly, as well as for any family that prefers quiet. Adult cats are more mellow and often more patient. They have experience with humans and have learned to live with us (lucky us!).

Shelter cats may not have had the best start in life, but you can change that when you welcome one or two into your home. And with all the pawsome benefits kitties can bring, you may just see that adopting a shelter cat will even change your life. Are you ready to find your new four-legged BFF?
When you bring home a feline companion from a shelter, you’re not only saving the life of the cat you adopted, but you’re also opening up space for the next cat who will come in, giving them a chance at finding their forever home, too. Pet overpopulation is real, and adopting from your local shelter is one way to help combat this huge problem.
Animal shelters are filled with cats with varied personalities, so you have a wide selection to choose from. Whether you’re looking for an energetic kitten, a young adult cat or an older senior cat, chances are you’ll find them at Mesquite Animal Shelter.
Since grown-up cats have established personalities, it’s easier to choose one who fits your lifestyle. Moreover, Animal control Officers and volunteers will tell you about each animal and help you find your purrfect match. Shelter cats are great animals, and most of them only ended up there because of a human problem like a move, a divorce, or a financial issue, not because they did anything wrong.
Remember, you’re giving a homeless animal a second chance, and now their life will be completely transformed because of you. They’ll never go hungry again, they’ll have lots of toys to play with, and they’ll have a warm bed to sleep in every night.
You will also encourage other people to adopt from shelters. Friends and family who may have never considered adopting a shelter cat will now see how wonderful they can be. And when they do adopt their own furry friend from the shelter, they’ll inspire others to do the same as well, thus creating a ripple effect.

Update on Mocha, who was adopted earlier this year! Mocha has been such a great addition to our furry family. Her and my mom fit perfect and she absolutely loves coming over to my house for sleepovers and playdates with my girls, her and Atera would play all day long if we let them. Every day we still find new quirks that we love. Mocha’s family aren’t the only ones who love her! She’s a frequent visitor at Beehive Assisted Living, where she loves getting attention and making the residents smile! ❤️❤️❤️
