Memorial Day is a hard day for many of us who served. It’s a day when the noise of the world fades, and the memories come back sharp and clear — the faces of friends we laughed with, trained with, trusted with our lives. Some of them never made the trip home.

We carry them with us. In the quiet moments. In the empty seats. In the stories we still tell because they can’t. Their sacrifice wasn’t just a moment in time — it changed the course of our lives, and it shaped the freedoms we wake up to every morning.

Today, we don’t celebrate. We remember. We honor the fallen by living in a way that reflects their courage, their loyalty, and the love they had for this country and for each other.

To the families who lost someone they love — we see you. We remember with you. And we will never forget the price your loved one paid.

From the veterans at FTair.

This is pretty cool! - KLM Reveals How Jets Are Wrapped and Prepared for Deep Storage

At first glance, it looks like something straight out of Stranger Things, an airliner tangled in tubes and sealed off from the outside world. But this unusual scene is part of a deep storage preservation process used by KLM Cityhopper.

In 2024, four Embraer 195-E2 aircraft were moved to Twente Airport as engine availability issues from Pratt & Whitney forced them out of service.

Before storage, the aircraft had their engines, auxiliary power units, and batteries removed in line with Embraer’s guidelines. Each jet was then fully sealed in a specialized protective foil cocoon, a process that took around six weeks per batch, designed to protect both the interior and exterior from weather and environmental damage.

Last week marked another step forward as the second aircraft was removed from its cocoon. With engine availability improving, the Embraers are gradually returning to service, with wheels and engines being reinstalled before undergoing thorough inspections and testing. This process takes approximately two months, after which the aircraft will be fully available again for KLM Cityhopper operations.

The remaining two aircraft are expected to follow later this autumn.
