Beyond Meat is rolling out its most ambitious product yet, a whole cut steak filet built from mycelium, the root like network of fungi, and it's finally hitting real supermarket shelves.

The filet debuts at Wegmans and H-E-B after already becoming the company's top selling item during a direct to consumer test run, proving real demand exists beyond restaurant menus.

Each serving reportedly delivers 28 grams of protein and just one gram of saturated fat, numbers that put plenty of actual steak to shame.

The company is betting big that mycelium can finally solve the texture problem that has haunted plant based meat for years, delivering a bite that mimics real muscle fiber.

If a fungus based steak can out-nutrition a cow while tasting just as good, the excuses for sticking with the real thing keep getting thinner.
