More or Less than 2/32? 😂😂

DOT walked around my truck during an inspection...

Stopped.

Looked at my drives.

Looked back at me.

Looked at the tires again.

Then asked...

"How long have these been like this?"

I said...

"Depends."

"Depends on what?"

"Depends if you're asking me as a DOT officer or as a friend."

Because as a friend...

Those tires have been trying their best for about 80,000 miles.

As a DOT officer...

I've never seen those tires before in my life.

The crazy thing is every trucker has played this game.

You do your pre-trip.

Kick the tires.

Stare at them.

Convince yourself they've got another week left.

Then another week.

Then another.

Pretty soon the tread is just a memory and you're out here driving on pure optimism.

My tire guy loves me.

Not because we're friends...

Because every time I pull in he sees a down payment on his next fishing boat.

He'll walk around the truck shaking his head.

"Driver, these tires are bald."

No sir.

They're aerodynamic.

Less tread means less wind resistance.

I'm basically saving fuel.

Then he hands me the estimate.

Suddenly those tires don't look that bad anymore.

Funny how that works.

Every trucker knows the feeling...

You can get another 50,000 miles out of a tire in your head...

Right up until DOT starts measuring it.

Trucker Life!!!

A lot of drivers feel like this is happening quietly across the industry. English testing during inspections is becoming a bigger issue, and failing can reportedly mean fines or being shut down immediately. For many truckers, years of safe driving suddenly don’t feel like enough protection anymore.
