A school bus means children, and children mean unpredictability.

You NEVER know what MAY happen when children are around! If you see a school bus,

SLOW DOWN. If you see a school bus with its eight-way lights activated, STOP! There is absolutely NO REASON to pass a school bus that has activated its eight-way loading and unloading lights!

If you’re confused and don’t know what to do, STOP! Partner with us and you just might save the life of a child!

📚🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL MEANS SAFETY FIRST! 🚌📚
As students head back to the classroom, we're asking every driver to help keep Tennessee's roads safe.

🚸 Remember:
🛑 Stop and yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
🛑 Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
🛑 Obey crossing guards.
🛑 Stay alert, children can be unpredictable near schools, neighborhoods, and bus stops.
🛑 Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians.

A few extra seconds of patience can save a life. Slow down, stay focused, and help us ensure every student arrives safely to and from school.

Passing a stopped school bus when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended is against the law. Drivers in both directions are required to stop, except when the roadway is divided by a physical median, such as a concrete barrier or grass divider.

Violating this law in Tennessee can lead to a fine and add 8 points to your driver's license.

As we are getting ready to get back into the school routine next week, remember:

🟡Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. You should slow down and prepare to stop your vehicle.

🔴Red flashing lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. You must stop your car and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving before you can start driving again.

🟡 Stay alert for kids.
