🏢 Have you seen the new terminal yet?

The McAlester Regional Airport’s new 4,500-square-foot terminal is the first major construction project completed at the airport in more than a decade.

The Community Open House & Fly-In on June 13 will give residents an opportunity to tour the facility, meet pilots, and learn more about aviation in southeast Oklahoma.

The McAlester Regional Airport Community Open House & Fly-In is shaping up to be a fun day for the entire family.

Here’s what you can expect:
🌭 Free hot dogs
🍦 Free frozen custard
🎈 Inflatables
🏢 Tours of the new terminal
✈️ Visiting aircraft and pilots
📚 Aviation displays and exhibits

The event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

✈️ McAlester Aviation History ✈️

Did you know commercial airline service once connected McAlester to cities like Dallas, Tulsa, and Kansas City?

Take a look at these snippets from a Central Airlines, Inc. report from 1961.

Like many smaller regional airports across America, commercial passenger service in McAlester gradually declined over the years as airline industry changes shifted more flights toward larger metropolitan airports and highway travel became more common. While scheduled passenger service eventually ended in the early 1990s, the airport continued evolving to meet the region’s needs.

Today, the McAlester Regional Airport remains an important part of southeast Oklahoma — supporting general aviation, corporate travel, emergency response, military operations, agricultural aviation, and flight training.

As we prepare for the June 13 Open House & Fly-In, we’d love to hear your memories of the airport over the years.
