Town Meeting Tuesday at 7pm in Town Hall. They need 75 people in attendance to vote on tax exemptions for our senior citizens and disabled veterans. Please join me at this meeting. It will be very brief but if we dont have 75 people in attendance the exemption will be lost. The town voted yes on this exemption in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
REMINDER:
Please attend the Fall Special Town Meeting scheduled for Tuesday night October 16 at 7:00pm in the downstairs meeting room of Town Hall. There is very little business to cover and the meeting promises to be very quick, but the two Articles that appear on the agenda are very important.
The first article will approve a small tax exemption for certain elderly, surviving spouses and minors whose father is deceased; as well as Veterans and surviving spouses, 100% disabled veterans and legally blind residents. This tax exemption actually applies to just a few Maynard residents who meet the income requirements set by the Commonwealth. However, if Town Meeting fails to vote favorably on this exemption, these deserving residents will lose their opportunity to claim the reduction in tax.
The second article will officially accept Shore Road as a town road. Currently, Shore Road is not accepted; as such, the town is forbidden from doing any maintenance or upkeep on that street. It is in dire need of some work and the good residents of Shore Road need the vote of Town Meeting to allow for acceptance.
75 residents are needed to be in attendance to meet the quorum requirement. Please make every effort possible to attend this meeting. It should take no more than a half hour of your time, but will ensure that these two important articles can move forward for the benefit of the residents affected.
Thank you.
