Today, Governor Andy Beshear announced that the Mayfield - Graves County Airport had achieved the distinction of being named a “Regional Airport”. How did we get here and what does this mean for the future?
In order to achieve the “Regional Airport” distinction, Mayfield had to not only meet the required number of turbine (jet) operations, but also had to meet other requirements such as night time operations, instrument operations, Jet Fuel availability, Automated Weather Systems, a passenger terminal, and aircraft maintenance. It is with great pride that the Mayfield Graves County Airport Board can announce that we have far exceeded those requirements and now join a very small group of airports across the state with such a distinction.
Mayfield is rebuilding. Local industries are expanding and new investment is flowing into the community. Those business leaders and investors don’t arrive by Greyhound Bus; they arrive by corporate aircraft. As such, this facility often makes the first impression on visitors and investors alike.
No matter if it is the next job producing industrial development coming to the community, the expansion of home grown businesses to new territories, the evacuation of a newborn or trauma patient to a world class healthcare facility, or as the gateway for first responders and agents of recovery into the region following the next disaster; YOUR Mayfield Graves County REGIONAL Airport is here and ready to serve our community.
