Did you know this little stone at the corner of Rohrerstown Road and Harrisburg Pike is part of Lancaster County’s early transportation history?

The carving reads “3 L / 22 M,” meaning travelers were 3 miles from Lancaster and 22 miles from Middletown. Long before GPS, highway signs, or numbered routes, stone mile markers like this told travelers how far they had to go.

Harrisburg Pike was part of the old Lancaster, Elizabethtown and Middletown Turnpike, one of the important early roads carrying people, mail, farm goods, and freight through the county. Another nearby turnpike connected Mountville and Marietta, helping tie inland communities to the Susquehanna River and the transportation routes that followed it.

What makes these markers especially interesting is that some are still standing today. You can still spot old stones along Harrisburg Pike in places like Landisville and Salunga, and there is another surviving marker just before the Harrisburg Pike and Centerville Road intersection.

They are easy to miss, but they are essentially some of Lancaster County’s original road signs, still sitting beside roads people travel every day.

Local drivers are home daily. Regional drivers are typically out for two to three days at a time and then home. You’ll get weekly pay, no-touch freight, drop-and-hook loads, and equipment based at our Marietta yard.

Trucking Through Time

Long before GPS and smartphones, getting from point A to point B took a little more planning.

Truck drivers relied on road atlases, handwritten directions, pay phones, and plenty of experience to find their way. A paper map spread across the dashboard was just part of the job.

Every generation of drivers has had different tools, but the mission has always been the same: deliver safely, deliver on time, and keep America moving.

There is something especially fitting about Dolly Parton’s final public appearance taking place at the opening of her own truck stop: Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stops

It wasn’t a red carpet or an awards ceremony. It was just off I-65 in Cornersville, Tennessee, surrounded by travelers, truck drivers, and working people.

Dolly always understood the dignity of hard work and the importance of treating people with kindness. Her final public appearance feels like one more reminder of the genuine connection she maintained with everyday Americans throughout her remarkable life.

Trucking Through Time

There was a time when truck stops didn't exist.

In the early days of trucking, drivers grabbed a meal at a local diner, fueled up at small gas stations, and found whatever place they could to rest for the night.

As long-haul trucking grew, so did the need for places built specifically for professional drivers. What started as simple roadside stops eventually evolved into the truck stops we know today, offering fuel, food, showers, maintenance, overnight parking, and much more.

They've become more than just a place to stop. For many drivers, they're a home away from home.
