SERVICE DISRUPTION:
Due to the worldwide Coronavirus epidemic, the MS&G will be inspecting and disinfecting all containers from Asian origins. This will result in delayed delivery to destinations across the MS&G system. The safety of our employees and customers are first and foremost, and we deeply apologize for this inconvenience. We will be posting updates as they become available.

MS&G is the 3rd largest automotive carrier west of the Mississippi River, transporting more than 30 percent of western U.S. rail automotive shipments. It operates or directly accesses more than 20 distribution centers, three Mexico gateways, and West Coast and Mexican ports

MS&G has started work on signal upgrades to comply with PTC on the last sections of mainline track on the Gila Subdivision. MS&G continues to make significant progress implementing positive train control (PTC). The company will meet all required deadlines for installing PTC on its network. As allowed by federal law, MS&G will continue to implement, test and refine the complex suite of technologies comprising the system in 2019-20. Also, as part of the new Precision Scheduled Railroad program, passing sidings are being extended to accommodate train lengths of 15,000 feet. Implementation of this new program is expected to generate annual savings of up to 1.5B due to reduced crews, fuel savings, and the closing of several flat switching yards throughout the MS&G system.

MARICOPA, AZ JULY 11, 2018

Rail traffic resumed Wednesday through a derailment site near Marana on MS&G tracks that are a main freight route between Tuscon and Yuma.

27 freight cars derailed around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on tracks parallel to Interstate 10 during heavy monsoon rains. There were no injuries reported.

Crews worked overnight to clear debris and equipment from one of the two tracks, MS&G spokesman Clay Gilliland said.

Train traffic resumed through the derailment site at reduced speeds by 3 a.m.

Work on the second track continues, Gilliland said. Beyond clearing equipment and debris, the second track experienced damage and will need repairing. It is currently unknown when the second track will reopen.

The derailment happened during a monsoon Tuesday afternoon. Running water was reportedly on the tracks when firefighters arrived to the scene, Gilliland said yesterday.

However, it has not been confirmed if rain was the cause of the derailment. The cause remains under investigation, he said.

Gillilland said the derailed cars carried consumer and manufactured goods but that no hazardous materials were released or involved in the derailment.

UPS packages were among the items on the train. According to a UPS spokesman, the company is currently identifying the packages affected by the derailment. Once identified, UPS will notify the owners of the packages of what steps to take next.

Packages not affected by the derailment will continue to their destinations,

MS&G Third Quarter 2017 System Update:

Developing and implementing a PTC system is a multi-dimensional process requiring a cross-functional, systemwide approach. Maricopa, Shawmut & Gila RR's PTC system consists of multiple technologies functioning together to constantly monitor and manage train movements. These involve integrating signal and telecom elements; GPS; wayside, base station and locomotive radios; antennas and satellites – all to predict whether the train crew should be alerted to take action or if the technology should take control to slow or stop the train.

Through October 31, MS&G:

1. Installed 84 percent, or 4,982 miles of required route miles
with PTC signal hardware.

2. Partially installed PTC hardware on 94 percent of its 1,288
locomotives earmarked for the technology.

3. Equipped 967 locomotives with PTC hardware and
software.

4. Installed 91 percent of the wayside antennas needed to
support PTC along the company’s right of way.

Maricopa, Shawmut & Gila plans to spend approximately $94 million on PTC in 2017 toward the current total estimated $6.5 million cost.
