Well…we made it!!! We left Marathon on March 26th and arrived Joe Wheeler State Park Marina and Campground on 5/9/26. This is where the boat will be for the foreseeable future as we enjoy family in Tennessee and Michigan this summer. We’ll be back and forth occasionally to enjoy our new marina and the area, but we know when we’re not here the boat will be safe and secure. Being only an hour and a half to two hours from our kids in southern middle Tennessee…we no sooner tied up and our youngest son John, his girlfriend and our 4 yr old grandson Colson were here. Sunday (yesterday) was my birthday so not only did John and Colson come back but our oldest daughter Rachel, her husband Matt and grandkids Sophia and Weston came for some wonderful fun! We walked to the on site restaurant and enjoyed a great Mother’s Day buffet and then back to the boat for birthday cake. I’ve dropped some travel info below for those curious about the miles, hours, fuel etc…that it took to get here. It will definitely be nice to enjoy some of the cheaper slip fees here, as compared to the Keys. However, we will sure miss that Keyzee vibe, clear turquoise water, dolphins, manatees and all of our friends in Marathon. Thanks for following and we’ll keep you posted on the summer activities. 😁😁

With one travel day left we are told that a barge hit the doors at the Wheeler lock…😫😫. We ducked into Florence Harbour Marina for what we thought might be a 2 or more night stay. Apparently they got the fix made in all the commercial traffic pushed through that was backed up due to the incident. We should be shoving off for our final 19 miles today. Marathon Fl to Joe Wheeler Marina, Al.
March 26th to May 9th
Had a great visit and dinner last night with Kenneth and Susan Bladow on CraSea Horse. They also came from the deep south this spring and are heading back to their home port for the summer in Decatur, Alabama.

Columbus Mississippi to Fulton Mississippi today. 59.6 miles, 4 locks…8 1/2 hours

5/5/26 Quick catch-up….we left Marathon 🥲 March 26 to start our journey north for the season. Much like last summer & fall, we are going to spend time with kids, grandkids, parents, etc….in Tennessee and Michigan this year. My Mom is turning 90 at the end of this month, so we have to celebrate that in Michigan for sure…and for those that might not be aware, we have a non-verbal 8 yr old grandson (also in Michigan) with autism spectrum disorder. We’ll be sharing most of our summer between grandson and mom…as well as seeing our other kids and grands in Tennessee. Yep, going to be a busy season. As for our journey the last 6 weeks, it’s been quite uneventful and smooth, other than the need to replace the big start battery and while at it I also swapped out the generator battery. We’re glad we got indication of a failing battery while in Fairhope Al, on Mobile Bay, as we were heading from there up the river system where there are definitely fewer services. We were hustling pretty good this year but a few of our stops and highlights before Fairhope were…Everglades, Marco, Cape Coral, Cayo Costa, Steinhatchee, and across the pan handle. Didn’t spend as much time as we’d like enjoying everywhere, but we did our best. We did add another solar panel (200 watt) before we left Marathon and finished the project along the way. It’s working wonderfully and it’s made a significant improvement. Thanks as always for following and we’ll leave a few photos here catching y’all up. 😁😁

April 9th update….We left Marathon 2 weeks ago and made our way to Little Shark River in the Everglades, Smokehouse Bay Marco Island and then to Cape Coral where we spent a few nights at the beautiful home of Chris and Lesley Stockdale and Lesley’s mom Barb. Lots of fun conversation, dinners and pool floating. Chris and I have been buds since 7th grade. Always great seeing Chris’s brother Mark and coincidentally my sister and brother in law were in the area (Naples) and met us for a nice dinner. We arrived Cayo Costa on the 3rd of April and have been here waiting out this heavy wind event that is hitting Florida this week. We hope to start moving north on the weekend. Yes…before we left Marathon I did fracture a bone in my big toe, and started another solar panel install (adding another 200 watts), among a few other miscellaneous projects. While here in Pelican Bay we had a nice Easter brunch at anchor on Chrissy and Aaron’s boat and the ladies (Chrissy, Wendy and Terri) knocked it out of the park with the deliciousness. Thanks y’all!!! The next few stops will be Sarasota, Tarpon Springs, Cedar Key, Steinhatchee, then across to Carrabelle. Stay tuned and thanks for hanging with us! 😁😁😁

So long Marathon for now. Spring is here, summer is coming and we’re heading north once again. Our last day was spent pontooning around with our friends Tony and Tori on Adventure and other friends who came down to see us from Panama City, Jimmy and Deb Lumley. What a fun day…thanks Jimmy and Deb!! Day one back on the water found us 5 hours north of Marathon in a beautiful and remote anchorage just outside Shark River in the Everglades National Park…day two was another open water crossing to Marco Island where we’re once again anchored in one of our favorite cozy and safe spots…Smokehouse Bay. Cape Coral tomorrow for a few nights, just in time for a big blow that’s hitting starting Sunday.

Out with the old….and in with the new. My best guess is the old 7.0cf Norcold 2-way was about 13 years old. Going with the 10.1cf residential frig from Home Depot. We’ll wire a double gang box with a 110v plug to the original 110v breaker in the panel (shore power) and the other plug to our 12/1200 Victron inverter for off grid. Helping to support our power needs for the last few years is our 6 12v Trojan T-1275 lead acid house bank (900ah total) with 2
340 watt LG solar panels. Huge shoutout to those Captains and friends that gave me advise, direction and encouragement, as well in this case, the physical help with the uninstall and install. Thank you Aaron on MV Wait N Sea, Larry on MV White Star and special thanks to my boat Sensei Tony on MV Adventure who has been right there for me on many projects with his multi-meter, experience, tools, and his headlamp, helping me get it all done. 🤣😁👍
