Today we pause to remember the events of 7 December 1941 and the tragic loss of life that resulted from an unprovoked attack on our shores eighty years ago. We salute the bravery and heroism of the men and women who fought to preserve our Republic and the principles for which it stands. We encourage all our friends and fellow Americans to reflect on the unflinching courage and dedication it took for that generation to stand against the enemies of this nation, to defeat their totalitarian leaders, and to ultimately bring freedom and prosperity to those nations. Above all, we want to thank them for their sacrifices for our nation and for us, their descendants.

We have a lot going on at OBXA right now, but who doesn't have time for GOLDEN HOUR?

An estimated 30 million tons of sand, spread across over 420 acres, Jockey's Ridge is home to the largest sand dunes on the entire eastern seaboard. The dunes are free to visit and provide plenty of room for activities such as hang gliding and sand boarding.

Fun Fact: Under all that sand is a miniature golf course from the 1970's!

Today, OBXA had a wonderful time picking up passengers in Wilmington, NC and bringing them back up the coast to the Outer Banks!

On our way out of Wilmington, we flew directly over the USS North Carolina, otherwise known as "Showboat." Construction on "Showboat" began in 1937 and, after completion, was commissioned in the US military for over 10 years! The ship was equipped with nine 45 caliber guns in three turrets and twenty 38 caliber guns in ten twin mounts. All that firepower enabled the USS NC to participate in every major naval offensive in the Pacific area during WW2.

OBXA had two birds flying this weekend at the Currituck County, North Carolina Aviation Day! This photo was snapped just over the Albemarle Sound on our way back to Manteo.

Fun Fact: Ralph Lane, a member of the Roanoke Island Colony, first explored the Albemarle Sound in 1586 and called it the “Sea of Rawnocke.” It was later renamed after George Monck, the First Duke of Albemarle.
