Sharing a few summer shipping tips most people don’t hear until it costs them:
If you’re getting freight quotes, don’t just shop the cheapest number. Ask what’s INCLUDED in the rate.
A lot of low quotes turn into:
• detention charges
• liftgate fees
• residential delivery add-ons
• re-delivery charges
• “limited access” fees
• fuel adjustments after booking
Another big one this time of year:
Transit times get less reliable in summer. Holidays, weather, produce season, construction, and driver vacations all tighten capacity. If your shipment HAS to arrive by a certain day, communicate that upfront instead of assuming every carrier can hit it.
And one more:
Bad dimensions cost people money constantly. If your pallet is “about 4 feet tall,” that’s how reweighs happen. A few inches can change freight class and pricing fast.
The smoothest shipments usually come from customers who give:
• exact dimensions
• honest weights
• clear pickup hours
• photos when possible
• flexibility before it becomes urgent
That’s the stuff that actually helps brokers protect your shipment and pricing.
