As a Service Disabled Vietnam Veteran and self-made businessman, he is an outspoken advocate in helping craft legislation to help Disabled Veteran enter the world of entrepreneurship. As the President of The Olde Glory Coffee Company™, Abe is a self-proclaimed coffee geek! Born in Sweden, and the son of Holocaust survivors, Abe’s family moved to Brooklyn in 1953 to pursue the American dream. In 19
67, at the age of 18, Abe enlisted in the army. He became service disabled while serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Since returning home, Abe completed his college and graduate education, and successfully started and managed a number of small businesses. At one point, he was afforded the opportunity to become the exclusive Seattle’s Best Coffee franchisee for Newark Airport. At that time, he didn’t know he was about to discover his newest passion. Although Abe loved the business, he realized that being a franchisee was not quite fulfilling. He actually wanted to control the quality of the coffee all the way back to the roasting point. Abe rented line time at a local coffee roaster, and started roasting his own coffee. It was then, his new coffee company was born- “The Olde Glory Coffee Company.” Abe also had another passion. He patterned it after the Ben & Jerry philosophy of “creating the best product on the market, and then contributing back.” Abe realized that there would not be a more noble cause than to give something back to those who sacrificed so much for their country. It is in this regard, that The Olde Glory Coffee Company will donate 50¢ to the R&DA Military Assistance Program for every pound of coffee it sells.
