Magee Airport, Simpson County, Mississippi

March 19, 1964

Under the excuse of poor weather conditions, 1st Lt. John Spencer landed his twin engine U.S. Army C-2 Caribou aircraft at the Magee Airport to visit his mom. Lt. Spencer was from Magee. They missed his mother who was out of town, but they did stay long enough to eat a steak dinner.

This particular aircraft, serial number 24144, was assigned to the 219th Reconnaissance Airplane Company "Headhunters". It operated out of Camp Holloway in Pleiku, Gia Lai Province, South Vietnam from July 1965 to April 1968. The aircraft was transferred to a transportation company and destroyed in an accident in Vietnam in August of 1969.
