It was truly an honor to be accepted into and graduate from Leadership Hopkins County this year.

Over the past 10 months, I’ve had the opportunity to learn so much more about the incredible people, industries, organizations, and leaders that make Hopkins County what it is. As the Airport Manager at Madisonville Regional Airport, I’m always looking for ways to grow as a leader and better serve our community, and this program provided exactly that opportunity.

Throughout the program, we visited and learned from many different parts of our community including the coal mines, county and city departments, Board of Education, hospital, agricultural operations, and industries. It was eye opening to see the amount of work, leadership, and collaboration happening behind the scenes throughout Hopkins County every day.

One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was participating in our group community project supporting the Hopkins County Senior Citizens Center. Our team helped host an open house for the center and I had the opportunity to design and build their new website as part of the project.

I’m very thankful for everyone involved in Leadership Hopkins County and for the relationships and experiences gained throughout the program. Hopkins County has an incredible community, and I’m proud to be part of it.

Our team had a blast welcoming visitors from all over the country to Madisonville Regional Airport this weekend! Events like this take a lot of teamwork behind the scenes, but it is well worth it to showcase our airport and community. It was great having so many aviation enthusiasts here at home!

House Bill 900 provides targeted funding for key infrastructure projects across the state. Notably, and additional $800k was appropriated specifically for general aviation airports, bringing the total investment to over $11 million - a 7.55% increase over the last budget. This additional funding will help support airport improvements, enhance safety, and strengthen the role of local airports in regional economic development.

Additionally, KAA has continued to advocate for Senate Bill 133, which looks to provide audit relief on the part of our general aviation airports. Be on the lookout for news on our upcoming post-session tours for more details!

We would like to thank the Madisonville Fire Department for leading our airport staff in fire safety training at Madisonville Regional Airport.

Our team spent time learning about MFD’s aircraft fire response capabilities, including foam application, emergency procedures, and how they would respond to an incident on the field. We also completed a full tour of the facility and reviewed critical fire equipment together.

Coordination between airport staff and first responders is imperative, and opportunities like this ensure we are prepared to work together efficiently and safely in the event of an emergency.

A huge thank you to the Madisonville Fire Department for taking the time to train with us and for their continued support of our airport!
