If Africa is on your travel list, Southern Africa is one of my favorite places to start.
You get the perfect mix of incredible wildlife, beautiful hotels, w**e country, vibrant cities, and once in a lifetime safari experiences without feeling like you have to choose just one type of trip.
South Africa + Botswana is one of my favorite combinations for a first safari because each destination offers something completely different.
South Africa is easy to reach from NY and Atlanta in the US or connecting through all major European hubs.
A fantastic first timers trip can be a mix of vibrant Cape Town, Winelands for some famous Sauvignon Blanc and amazing safari with Big 5 viewing.
Belmond Mount Nelson is one of my favorite choices for first time visitors to Cape Town.
The iconic pink hotel has been welcoming travelers for generations, but what I love most is its location. It gives you an elegant, relaxed base for exploring Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Winelands, and the Cape Peninsula.

If safari is the priority, start with Sabi Sands 🐆
The Sabi Sands is one of my favorite areas for a first safari because of its exceptional game viewing and incredible leopard sightings.
There are no fences between Sabi Sands and Kruger National Park, and the private reserve experience means you can often get closer to the action and enjoy off road game drives.
And I absolutely love Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge for clients who want a safari lodge that feels warm, comfortable and authentic while still delivering that incredible wildlife experience.
