LAX is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational perform

ance, and sustainability. To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0. The final beam has been placed on the frame for Terminal 4’s modernization.

This marks a significant milestone in the construction of the terminal's main concourse, which connects the facility's new headhouse with gates already completed at its southern concourse. Following the “topping out,” the structure is now considered ready for crews to install interior finishes, such as walls and windows, as well as supporting infrastructure.

“This is another important step in LAX's multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program which is creating a better travel experience for Angelenos and visitors alike,” said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. “I want to recognize the leadership of CEO John Ackerman and the Board of Airport Commissioners for making these critical investments to develop the world-class airport that Los Angeles deserves, especially as we prepare to welcome the world with the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

From the ramp to the runway, Los Angeles World Airports team members and airline partners came together for an Earth Day FOD Walk, reinforcing our shared responsibility to protect our airport and the environment. Removing foreign object debris (FOD) from the airfield helps prevent aircraft damage, reduces delays, and supports safer, more sustainable operations at LAX. Happy Earth Month! 🌎

You may notice something new at LAX 🚆

SkyLink trains are now running around the clock as the system enters its preparation phase before opening. This marks a major step forward, with the entire system operating together under real conditions for the first time.

This period focuses on running everything end to end to ensure the system is safe, reliable, and ready for public use.

Testing will continue 24/7 as we move through this critical stage of preparation!

From dunes to habitat 🦋🌿✨

LAWA’s Natural Resources team wrapped a major restoration project at the LAX Dunes, bringing new life to one of the last remaining coastal ecosystems in Los Angeles. Nearly 24,000 native plants are now in the ground and 17.9 acres of invasive vegetation have been removed, creating space for the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly to thrive again.

Powered by volunteers, partners, and a whole lot of care for this place we call home 💛.

Every spring break starts with a vision. It’s cinematic. Golden hour, great decisions, the best version of yourself on vacation.

Luckily at LAX, we’ve been on set for decades. Some of the most iconic travel moments in cinema played out right here. You might recognize some of the terminals immortalized in each slide. (IYKYK, shout it in the comments 😉)

We’ve seen the director’s cut. Here’s our translation of the group chat vision, versus what we see at check-in.

A simple gesture can go a long way. We’re inviting guests at LAX to take a moment to show appreciation for our dedicated TSA officers, by writing a note on an LAX postcard and sharing a few words of gratitude.

These small acts mean more than you know. If you’re traveling through LAX, join us in spreading kindness, one thank you at a time. 💌

If there’s one thing about Angelenos, we show up for our people. We are incredibly grateful to our Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) at LAX who continue to show up to work to ensure our guests can travel safely, and that operations continue smoothly. Now, it’s our turn to thank and support them.

Here’s how the LAX community has stepped up for our TSOs so far:
✈️ 15 gallons of gas free of charge for TSOs
✈️ A marketplace stocked with essentials accessible to TSOs
✈️ Meal and retail discounts at LAX for TSOs provided by concessionnaires
✈️ Notes of support and appreciation to TSOs posted throughout the airport
… with so much more in the works.

If you represent or know of a business/institution that would like to support the TSOs in Los Angeles, please reach out to [email protected].

And if you’re traveling through LAX today, don’t forget to thank our TSOs for their service.

Remembering a Legend: Ethel Lund Pattison. After retiring from her career as flight attendant with United Airlines, Ethel began her service with Los Angeles World Airports in 1956 and devoted more than six decades to the City of Los Angeles, serving as Chief Airport Guide and later as an Airport Information Specialist. From helping secure public support for LAX’s expansion into the jet age, to welcoming visitors, guiding student tours, supporting public and media relations, and promoting Los Angeles as a global destination, Ethel’s impact was far‑reaching and enduring.

Beyond her operational contributions, Ethel was a founding leader of the Museum and Learning Center, where she served as Airport Historian and Vice President, preserving Southern California’s aviation heritage and inspiring young people to pursue careers in aviation and aerospace.

A true trailblazer and model of public service, Ethel Pattison’s legacy continues to inspire. We proudly celebrate her life and extraordinary contributions this Women’s History Month and always.
