Quay Valley

Quay Valley Our Greenprint for a Sustainable Future Imagine Quay Valley, California.

Imagine a place where every day the air is cleaner, the water is more pure, the people are healthier and deeply enriched by the culture, where life is better. Imagine beautiful homes near water, open space, and organic agriculture, with front porches on well-ordered, tree-lined lanes with walkways. At the same time, you see people you know on a first name basis and families boating on a local wate

rway. These are typical scenes played out on a daily basis in each of several planned villages within Quay Valley. Imagine also a field of solar arrays covering several hundred acres of water reservoirs, generating all the electricity the community needs. In the town's business parks, 21st century visionaries work to develop and manufacture emerging technologies and products for energy conservation and sustainable energy production—like solar panels and biofuels. The founding vision for Quay Valley is to build a model new town for the 21st century: a 7,500 acre self-sustaining community that seamlessly melds the best qualities of "New Urbanism" with the traditions of the San Joaquin Valley's small rural towns, while carefully preserving the natural surroundings of the area. Through progressive planning and design concepts, Quay Valley will provide a high quality of life to a diverse group of people. It is planned as a balanced community of "smart" homes with large front porches in villages that feature miles of trail systems linked to the neighborhoods, a vibrant town center with a Main Street concept, extensive open space, plazas and walkways, state-of-the-art schools, public facilities, lakes, water features, regional and local parks, retail, office/business parks, industrial, entertainment destination areas and a warehouse/distribution/truck stop. All this combined with a progressive eco-system will make Quay Valley one of the most environmentally responsible communities in the world.

The greening of Avalon Street began in 2014, with the installation of a solar street light in front of Shu's home. The rest of the block will soon have more solar lights. Homework House will have geothermal heating and cooling, as well as a metal roof designed to save on cooling costs. The project received an $18,000 in-kind donation from Luma Resources, a company that manufactures shingle-style solar panels for rooftops.

Since Google declared its 100 percent commitment to renewables back in 2012, it has signed contracts that will help add almost 2.6 gigawatts of wind- and solar-generated electricity to the grid by the time all the projects are completely.

So far, it is helping add 2.6 gigawatts of wind and solar power to the global grid.

“Renewable power is an economical, practical solution for a growing number of locations and energy needs, and islands that have traditionally relied on fossil fuels can easily transition to microgrids powered by solar and storage today.”

Pacific Islanders are among the most vulnerable people to climate change. This is a way of fighting back.

Healthy soil is our ticket to reverse global warming. With regenerative agriculture, we can draw down carbon and put it back in the ground.

"It's time to stop subsidizing agricultural practices that contribute to global warming, and start subsidizing food, farming and land-use practices that restore the soil's capacity to draw down and re-sequester excess carbon from the atmosphere and store it in the soil."

Reducing waste in the food system could deliver $405 billion annually, while restoring degraded land could deliver up to $85 billion annually.

That's a stunning figure to describe potential added value by 2030, not to mention generating 80 million jobs. Here's what's key.
