A slow week ahead, but safe 😇
🚨 THE CDL SCHOOL CRACKDOWN WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING. NOW THE FEDS ARE FOLLOWING THE NETWORK.🚛
The federal crackdown on CDL fraud is getting much bigger.
FMCSA has emergency-removed 110+ CDL training providers connected to more than 5,000 drivers who later failed English-proficiency requirements. Another nearly 400 investigations across 40 states resulted in 160+ additional schools facing proposed removal. Investigators found missing testing records, unlicensed instructors, inadequate training facilities and schools certifying training that allegedly never happened.
But now investigators are moving beyond the schools.
Homeland Security Investigations has distributed 1,000+ leads involving CDL-related businesses and is investigating alleged CDL and identity fraud, unauthorized employment, shell companies, financial crimes, money laundering and labor exploitation, including potential connections to human smuggling, drug trafficking and cartel activity. More than 200 driving schools across 23 states were targeted in another coordinated operation.
And we’re already seeing what one of these networks can look like.
In Louisiana, six defendants pleaded guilty in a scheme that prosecutors say helped at least 124 people fraudulently obtain CDLs. Applicants typically paid around $5,000. DMV employees were bribed to falsify knowledge tests, driving schools certified training that never happened, and authorized examiners reported applicants passing skills tests they never took.
The Justice Department has also created Joint Task Force Crossroads of America, bringing together federal prosecutors, FBI, DEA, HSI, ICE, ATF, FMCSA and other agencies to investigate fraud and criminal networks involving commercial transportation.
That’s the bigger story.
A fraudulent CDL may be only the end product.
Behind it can be recruiters, fake training, compromised testing, fraudulent documents, employers, shell companies and people moving the money.
That doesn’t mean every CDL school, immigrant driver or foreign-owned carrier is involved. Nationality isn’t evidence, and allegations aren’t convictions.
But federal investigators are now following the connections.
110+ schools removed.
5,000+ drivers connected to those schools.
Nearly 400 investigations.
1,000+ business leads.
200+ schools targeted in another operation.
124 fraudulent CDLs in one Louisiana scheme alone.
Multiple federal agencies now involved.
The CDL schools got everyone’s attention.
The networks behind the fraud may become the real story.
