Lazaretto bench project.
In order to amplify the functionality of the aft locker, benches were added on the port and starboard sides. After a detailed re-paint. This scope of work detailed that the benches could be removable, and therefore saddles were fabricated at the fore and aft surfaces in which the bench slats would stay in position. The interesting angles of the boat hull and the demands of the geometry for the slats made the saddles a very important integral part of the entire design. The laminated parts were essentially sculpted to best fit the boat on the fore and aft sections as primarily anchoring points. The saddles had 3 positions to cradle each of the 3 slats. The saddle system was detailed with rounded corners and edges to be as ergonomic and functional as possible. After sanding the saddles epoxy resin was applied, primer applied, then final paint to match the new paint. All getting sanded between various applications. Two small vertical supports were added to keep the slats from flexing. These were attached with some machine screws to be removable by using threaded inserts. This was done so the slats could be stored efficiently if needed. Forward edge of the slats were also kept in place with machine screws set into SS inserts for added security, and easily removed when stowed away. The easier of the processes was making the slats. This teak 1/2” stock was 3 1/2” wide and edges routed, then 5 coats of varnish.

1973 Lido 14, hull #3890 - out of the shop and onto the racecourse. Lots of upgrades and modernization.Approx. 4 months of work….. I got the boat and the cockpit was a complete disaster, the remnants of a high tide line up to the seats. So Drained and dried out, sealed up, structurally fortified, painted, new, rigging, and currently working on crew timing and tuning… After several ups and downs - now starting to put together consecutive decent finishes, seems to be we could enjoy sailing with the big boys..

A full modernization and upgrades of a 1973 vintage Lido 14, hull number 3890.

Looking for short term boat storage. It is a 14’ sailboat on a trailer. I race on Thursday nights on the bay. Awaiting a more permanent space to open up.

The total length is about 18’. So I need a spot, side yard, alley, extra parking space etc. Belmont Shore, Heights, Alamitos hts., Bluff etc.
Thanks; have a great day - Glenn

Over 20 years the balsa core had soaked up water and therefore completely weakened the part.

The underside, fiberglass skin was carefully cut away and the waterlogged balsa core was removed.

Once the bonding surfaces were sanded and cleaned, Divynicell closed cell, 12 pound Foam with grid cuts was bonded into position with epoxy paste.

The underside fiberglass skin was bonded back into position. Clamps and weights help secure the parts.

Fiberglass tape helped seal up the seam around the perimeter. This made for an exceptional watertight and strong repair.

The final step was the inspection port area, the foam was cropped out and epoxy paste was injected into the circumference to further ensure watertight integrity of the newly laminated part. Upon removal of the inspection port, this was the downfall of the original product, the cut out did not have any backfill injected around the circumference, and this is where the water had migrated into the balsa core.
