Making learning spaces greener, quieter, and healthier! 🌿📚

A Port of Long Beach Community Grant awarded to Intellectual Virtues Academy Charter High School is bringing brand-new green space to campus! Located on Long Beach Boulevard near the 710 Freeway, this project adds trees, native plants, noise buffers, lighting, paving, and stormwater capture systems to create a safe, sustainable environment for approximately 120 vulnerable and special-needs students.

This project provides essential environmental mitigation, helping reduce air pollution and dampening noise from local truck and rail traffic from port operations.

The Community Grants Program is an initiative created to invest directly in local neighborhoods. To date, it represents the largest voluntary seaport mitigation program in the nation, funding millions in projects—like parks, air filtration, and health programs—in communities heavily impacted by goods movement.

Strong communities are built by strong workforces. 🏗️🌐

At the Port of Long Beach, more than 1 in 5 jobs in Long Beach—and 1 in 20 in the Southern California region—are connected to port operations. The hard work happening across our harbor supports families, strengthens local businesses and connects American goods to the global marketplace.

This week, CEO Dr. Noel Hacegaba presented “A New Vision for the Port of the Future” at the Propeller Club of LB/LA to a sold-out crowd of more than 150 guests, including four of our Harbor Commissioners.

Drawing on more than 26 years of public-and private-sector leadership—including nearly two decades at the Port—Hacegaba discussed the strategic investments and partnerships the Port is advancing to meet its new 2050 Vision to double annual cargo volumes to 20 million container units.

The Port of Long Beach is staying ahead of the curve as we build The Port of the Future™ in partnership with all of our customers, partners and stakeholders.

🚢💪 Welcome to the Port of Long Beach, GIGA TRANS!

Built specifically for ultra-large and heavy project cargo, this new heavy-lift powerhouse made its maiden call at Pier F, delivering a serious load: 3 transformers, 39 packages, 3 industrial tanks and 180 tubes. 🏗️

With Eastern Car Liner strengthening its project-cargo service between Asia and Long Beach, GIGA TRANS is more than a new vessel in the harbor. It’s a new connection for the oversized cargo that helps build the world around us.

And there’s a green side to the story, too: ECL has participated in the Port’s Green Flag Vessel Speed Reduction Program and received the 2025 Green Flag Award. 🌱

From transformers to tanks to tubes, Long Beach is ready for the heavy stuff. 🌏➡️⚓
