The Port of Long Beach is advancing cleaner, more sustainable goods movement with a first-of-its-kind $1 million Clean Fuel Bunkering Challenge Award.

The incentive will be awarded for the first commercial-scale methanol refueling of an oceangoing cargo vessel at our harbor, helping accelerate the transition to lower-carbon marine fuels. Learn more about the award from CEO Dr. Noel Hacegaba and Heather Tomley, Managing Director of Planning and Environmental Affairs in this video!

Using methanol can significantly reduce emissions compared to conventional marine fuel, and this initiative is designed to help build partnerships and infrastructure needed to support cleaner shipping in the San Pedro Bay.

Collaboration across the supply chain will be critical as we continue building the Port of the Future.
