UBER vs LYFT
I started using Lyft in Jan/20 when we went to San Diego. (It’s the first time I did not rent a car in our many trips there).
I had 5 young people & myself, so we needed an XL Lyft everywhere we went.
-spent $329 for the 5 days we were there
-hotel parking wouod have been over $150
-I would have had to pay for gas
-I would have had to pay parking at zoo, PGA tour, pacific beach etc..
BOTTOM LINE :
IT WAS CHEAPER & WAY EASIER to get around (eg. we would have had to walk soooo far to get into PGA tour vs drop off at front gate. ❤️)
-we would put our location into both apps, and the cheaper (or faster ride) was the one we picked.
-It was generally Lyft
**Also get extra points on my chase business card, and Hilton Honors card for some reason **(search promos tab on top left of app)
Safety Tips:
ALWAYS check license plate to ensure it matches what’s on app AND I need them to say my name as a pick up person before I get in (& I always sit in front after the scAre we had this trip).
NEVER get in a car when you feel uncomfortable (It’s easier to pay the $5 surcharge & be done with that driver, than risk your safety) .
This particular trip a guy seemed to be bouncing around ALOT as he came down the road to pick us up. I thought he was jamming out. Then he said he needed my daughter & I to sit in the back. We were super uncomfortable (I had my finger hovering over the emergency button on the app, while imagining how I might break the window to escape if needed... while trying to figure out how I could possibly grab the steering wheel, if needed... while in 4 lanes of traffic. My daughter also had the route in her “maps “ app to make sure we were on track. )
NOTHING is worth the stress we both felt as the mans body kept twitching and jerking. At one point he randomly honked the horn with a twitch (wondered what type of drug he might have been on- it was way weird).
He could hear everything we said & so it was difficult for her and I to talk - we could only text.
I was trying to gauge whether I should have him pull over vs get us there. (He did ok staying in the lane?).
Hindsight is 20-20. My daughter and I agreed to :
**NEVER get in a car when our gut told us “NO”
**To always calmly say, “we need you to stop at a bathroom immediately (or make up some random excuse to stop for something)
I am embarrassed that I even got us in that situation.
ps - One of the locals said they started allowing people to live in their cars a month ago in Long Beach county. He claimed that some people live in their car and drive for several apps eg. uber & lyft & uber eats & he named a couple more. (So if one app times you out of driving to rest, they can still drive on another ? He also said that sometimes a driver hasn’t even finished one drive while accepting another drive on another app?)
He was implying obvious safety & distraction issues ?)
